Let's discuss why Data Centers and EV's are WAY different. While also discuss how suspending gas tax makes a "leech" on the road funding budget. :) Road funding fairness: EVs don't pay gas taxes, which help fund roads and bridges. That's why there's a $230 annual supplemental registration fee (PHEVs pay less). It goes directly to the local road and bridge fund. Gas cars pay via the pump; EVs pay via this fee. During this 30-day holiday, a prorated temporary credit on the EV fee (about $16–$19) would be a consistent way to treat everyone fairly in an emergency — without breaking the road budget. Electricity use: All EVs in Indiana together use only a tiny fraction of the state's electricity — roughly 100–120 million kWh per year out of ~100 billion kWh total. That's like adding a few extra appliances across the whole state. Most charging happens at home overnight on cheap off-peak rates (sometimes as low as a few cents per kWh with utility programs). EVs are flexible and don't force new power plants the way constant 24/7 loads do. Data centers are completely different: One large data center (or cluster) can demand hundreds of megawatts around the clock — potentially equaling or exceeding what thousands of EVs use. Projections show data centers could take 20%+ of Indiana's electricity in coming years. That's driving a lot of the real debate over rate hikes, new gas plants, and who pays for upgrades (there's even legislation like SB 257 trying to protect residential customers from costs tied solely to big data centers). Some utilities have even proposed lowering base rates in part because of extra revenue from these large customers.

Our federal student loan system is allowing financially iIIiterate students in their early 20s to take on up to $200,000+ in debt. And that debt cannot be discharged in bankruptcy. These degrees often have a pathway to very mediocre careers of $40K/year.
