2025 has been a busy year, we’ve erected several Osprey nest platforms across Devon with great support from landowners. Hopefully we will see these being used in the future as Ospreys return to Devon after a 200yr absence #devonwildlife#rewilding#osprey#devon#returningspecies
Today’s wobbly Osprey offering is this beauty, viewed from Powderham Cycle path near Turf Lock. Later seen competently fishing on the Exe! @RSPBExeEstuary@DevonOspreys
It’s been another busy summer for us, with several nest platforms erected across Devon now. Thanks to all the landowners for their enthusiasm! We are still looking for suitable locations around the Teign and Exe, so do get in touch if would like to know more.
Two different Osprey at the same time fishing on the River Teign between Coombe Cellars and Shaldon on the dropping tide today. Didn't know which way to look! @DevonBirds
@SteveHO06733850@RoyDennisWF Yes Steve, lots of sightings from the Tamar and Tavy - probably due to several good places with access. Warleigh, Lopwell and Kingsmill feature heavily.
There’s a good reason Ospreys spend time in Devon - This map shows the hotspots as they utilise the areas which provide excellent foraging. This also shows the potential for a really strong population in south Devon! #osprey#devon
@Mr_ian_B@RoyDennisWF It’s for illustration only not geographical accuracy, it shows Devon’s rivers and waterways accurately enough. We didn’t draw the map!
@njburnell Normally a good place is Stoke Point looking across to Bow Creek, often juveniles fishing in that area and perching on the far side in oaks.
@DevonOspreys Thanks so much, I think I'll head out with the binoculars when the rain clears. So maybe Stoke Gabriel area? Or the creek on the other side of the river, not sure what it is called?
Great views this morning of an unringed juvenile Osprey fishing in the Millpond at #stokegabriel The Millpond holds large numbers of mullet and bass, eventually this Osprey caught a bass and headed into the woods behind to feed. #osprey#migration#devon#riverdart
@njburnell Hi Neil, the hotspots are between greenway and Sharpham, particularly the creeks on a rising tide. Still birds present today. Also on other estuaries - look for them around areas of shallow water.
@DevonOspreys Wow, I live locally and often spend time on the Dart fishing, but have never seen one! Where am I likely to see one and are they still around at this time of year?
I've enjoyed watching the migrating Ospreys on the River Axe since they arrived around mid August but with a mile of tidal estuary to watch, you can never be sure of being in the right place at the right time.
Today, I was! 😀

What a day! Fantastic views of at least 6 migratory Ospreys on the River Dart - 3 at the same time at the mouth of Bow Creek @DevonBirds#ospreysindevon@DevonOspreys
Osprey flew from the main River Tamar channel and leisurely through Kingsmill Lake just before 1. It had a failed fishing attempt near hide two and continued upstream. #birding#BirdsOfX#BirdsOfTwitter#TwitterNatureCommunity
Ringed #Osprey with blue ring to left leg (Scottish) and looking like possibly CN6. Fishing on the misty #ExeEstuary#Devon this morning after roosting in a dead tree on the Powderham castle estate @DevonOspreys@RoyDennisWF Have submitted ring details
Just maybe four Ospreys on the River Axe this AM
1. 3E6
2. Missing Primary Right Wing
3. No missing feathers
4. Missing secondary at joint, right wing also with huge feet but not 100% sure this is a fourth!
