Our Story, Our Language: Remembering the Ezidi Genocide of 2014
Why We’ve Translated Elif Shafak’s “There Are Rivers in the Sky” into Kurdish?
This powerful novel “#There_are_rivers_in_the_Sky by #ElifSafak” tells a story the world must never forget: the 2014 genocide of Kurdish Ezidis in #Sinjar. Through the eyes of Narin, a young Ezidi girl whose peaceful life along the Tigris is shattered by #ISIS, Shafak documents the tragedy that took 5,000 Ezidi lives and saw 7,000 women and girls forced into slavery.
But this book is more than witness to our pain—it’s a bridge connecting #Kurdish Ezidis to our ancient #Mesopotamian roots. From the libraries of #Nineveh to the sacred mountains of Sinjar, our presence in this land spans thousands of years.
2,800 Ezidis remain missing. 150,000 still live in displacement camps. Their story deserves to be told in #Kurdish, in our own language.
Water remembers. So will we.
