Trump primarily mobilizes White people and men. Wins handily. After the election, Democratic pundits say mobilizing “identity groups” don’t work and “failed miserably,” erasing Trump’s mobilization of White and male identity groups. Instead, they claim Trump prevailed with a “working class coalition,” erasing the women and Black people who are disproportionately working class. Double erasure. To be racist and sexist is to erase the presence of Black people, of women—and center White identity and male identity so profoundly that White people and men are no longer seen as “identity groups.” politico.com/news/magazine/…

As I mentioned before I was the first in my immediate and extended family to go to college but after I graduated the majority of my cousins have also gone and graduated and a couple cousins who are older than me have gone back to school and gotten degrees since as well! (2/x)

I am Dr. Deyanira Nevarez Martinez. In honor of First-Gen week I will share my higher ed journey! I’m the child of a farmworking family. I grew up on the migrant trail in San Luis, AZ(US-Mex Border) and The Arturo Ochoa Migrant Center in Gilroy, CA(garlic capital of the world!)1

My biggest hope is that little brown girls around see themselves in me and go on to achieve their dreams too. The folks who have supported me have instilled in me a “lift as you climb” mentality and I hope I can do for others. Si se puede! #startedfromtheborder 3
