Billy Donovan wanted to wait until end of season to make a decision on North Carolina and one source close to Donovan felt as though he might have taken it. But source said that new North Carolina AD Steve Newmark panicked after Tommy Lloyd and Dusty May spurned the Tar Heels.

@ChucktownHoops Definitely the latter. I think the writing was on the wall here especially if the stuff with the donors and alums was true. They have a decent bit more NIL than us but USF isn’t really a big enough jump to warrant especially if he truly loved Charleston.

@ChucktownHoops @229SouthFlorida It’s like you’re arguing with a brick wall. You’d think they trust the people who watched him coach the last 2 years. Went to every single home game and wasn’t really impressed.

@229SouthFlorida We had a first team all rookie, two first team all defensive, the defensive player of the year, two preseason first team all conference players. None of whom were the player who is out of eligibility.

I find it pretty astounding the gap that USF fans appear to think there is between their program and ours. 1. In 2025 USF’s operating budget for basketball was $8,567,401 (right at the top of the American) Charlestons was $5,199,977. (Top of the CAA.) A relatively small difference given how bad they seem to think our conference is. 2. South Florida is a historically (both recently and prior) a far worse program than Charlestons. That’s not even up for debate. 3. Mack’s entire team was in Charleston today at the presser and none of them are in Tampa.

Chris Mack said on @957WDAE that he didn’t choose USF just for professional reason. It’s also about the area and his kid has now been to 4 different grade schools, and he wants to see stability for his son, and could see him at Jesuit. Sounds like he’s here for the long run 🤘

Monmouth and Towson are having a very rough beginning to portal szn. Typically I don’t like seeing decent CAA teams getting ransacked but I admittedly am not a massive fan of either program.

The no-brainer move for Akron is to elevate associate head coach Dustin Ford. 

Ford, 47, has been with John Groce since he took over the program in 2017. 

The Zips have gone to the NCAA Tournament in four of the past five seasons. 

Ford, who played at Ohio, was also with Groce at Ohio and Illinois.
