I think the whole discourse about people watching games over playing them is emblematic of how a lot of people want to be part of the conversation while it's hot and fresh, FOMO basically, but they don't want to put in the work to bring anything meaningful to the conversation.

The premise is that yeah someone can theoretically beat all of Worldborne without forging armor, but that does not mean that it was made as some optional system to interact with as opposed to a core part of the game loop.

MH fans piss me off: a mechanic being "optional" doesn't mean it can't warp the design of other elements(or that said elements weren't designed with the optional mechanic in mind) literally the series with multiple weapons where you can play the entire game with just your fav

Someone completing that challenge run may show that upgrading gear is "optional", but it would be a silly statement to make in defense of some problem that armor upgrading creates, especially when the devs want you to engage with it.

@Nakatsu1178 @arturontheradio It undermines the positioning element of the combat, makes it far more reactive and than proactive, which was a key element that has been gradually sanded down. There are ripple effects to this that you are sweeping under the rug. This is no evolution, it's regression.

@AestheticGamer1 Yeah, I've never understood what it was about the cast that gets people so fervently defensive about them. The way a good chunk of the fanbase speaks about them, you'd think the cast's writing was modern Shakespeare or something.

(3/3) character writing has gotten better over the course of the series (some few ups & downs). But I don't think I'd ever recommend RE to someone who's looking for good stories & characters. I get being endeared to them from good games, but they're not what makes RE good imo.

The problem with a Resident Evil movie not following the characters from the franchise... The characters and their story are why we love the games. Without Chris & Claire Redfield, Jill Valentine, or Leon Kennedy and Wesker... Resident Evil just becomes another Zombie flick.

Far too much focus on endgame since 5th Gen. Getting to G Rank used to be an adventure/experience all its own, but the introduction of stuff like Defender gear makes it feel like Capcom is trying to onboard people as fast as possible. Makes the holistic experience much weaker.

@BannedDino I will forever champion Switch Skills. Iceborne hit a moveset bloat imo and I'm very much opposed to adding brand new weapon types in (I think it'd cause nothing but problems), but Switch Skills can breathe in new life to these weapon types while also retaining their identities.

@BannedDino I fuck with weapon skills as a concept for giving each weapon long term viability and uniqueness but it feels undermined by just how many skills we can put on our armor. That's my big issue, the skill bloat is just insane and this is just a base game too.
