@Unpaid1ntern Guy should have 2 of those but officiating rigged the end of the 2nd one because the team who signs their paychecks was in second at the time of the yellow/red

@Hickey93 Rossi was extremely impressive in 2018, one of the very few who could pass in that stinker of a race.

I don't think enough has been said in the offseason about Callum Ilott joining Wright Motorsports for the full IMSA season.

@DickDunn12 yeah, the Porsche brass is on record that they would put up the entry money if necessary. Grey area in a car being a "manufacturer car." Maybe they bring on a pay driver? There are some Indycar guys with funding and no seat. 2x funded drivers w/factory driver?

@atflorio From what he did say is it sounds like Porsche would pay the entry fee but no idea how they get 2 cars on the grid. Whatever the solution is, he said it’s not something most people are thinking

@DickDunn12 title sponsorship could possibly bridge the gap. I don't see the WEC bending on the 2-car rule because it opens the door for more variables on the BoP. It's surprising to me that Proton has had so much trouble with funding

@By_NathanBrown That dude has to be one of the biggest assholes of all time. It’s very obvious that if you max out the grid on the current Concorde agreement it boosts the value of every team and brings in the most money. He just hates the Andrettis and needs to be fired into the sun

This is genuinely hilarious, when you consider GM/Cadillac came into the fray in January 2023 alongside Andretti Global & GM/Cadillac registered as a power unit manufacturer in November 2023, all before the early-2024 FOM rejection.

@howard2112 @By_NathanBrown I tend to agree with ZB, Penske needs to massively increase their investment into marketing/promo if they want to see a meaningful increase in the popularity of Indycar outside the 500, his reduced car count take is trash though

@DickDunn12 @By_NathanBrown I agree with you. And as a whole I think we can easily say that it’s collectively on the rise. Now your point is well taken that for sponsors, that TV numbers may be the only KPI they care about and it’s tough to redirect their thinking. That’s the biggest challenge right now.

The thing is, there’s always going to be other things on TV. There have been other things on TV any time IndyCar has cracked 1 million in the past. IndyCar can’t be reliant on being the only ticket in town from a sports TV standpoint in order to deliver a 7-figure rating. A Fever game & a 2+ hour NASCAR pre-race show? That’s about as great as you could hope for. Frankly, the one thing I do think had some kind of impact was the increased news TV consumption, but otherwise, this sport has got to get out of the game of “oh, but X was on TV today, too.” This sport has to get to the point where it’s the choice of 1 million+ people consistently each time a race is on. (And actually the Fever game didn’t come on when the race was less than halfway over. Fever came on at 3pm ET. IndyCar started at 1:50pm & checkered flew at 3:45pm).

@howard2112 @By_NathanBrown I will say the YouTube channel is gaining traction and views from what I see when browsing. All that other stuff is good but I’m sure the teams and sponsors value the tv number over everything else. In person attendance seems to be up which is good but the tv numbers not popping

@DickDunn12 @By_NathanBrown Look I’m not disagreeing with you. I’m simply saying that we can’t measure metrics the same way as we did 5 years ago…even 2 years ago. The world has changed and how people consume any content is different.

@By_NathanBrown @howard2112 Anyone thinking Fox was this magic bullet was fooling themselves, sure Fox has done some more promotion than nbc but indycar itself needs to step up and spend a boat load of money marketing if they want to extend the fanbase past the 1.5M number regularly

NBC aired 38 network TV IndyCar races from 2019-2024 that weren’t the 500, weren’t rain delayed & we’re up against the NFL. 19 of those hit 1 million & the average viewership was 998,000. That’s what I’m comparing to. And I’m confident in saying that IndyCar wasn’t the only sports TV on in those instances where it cracked 7 figures. Sunday was the lowest-rated IndyCar race at Road America in the times in which it was on network TV.
