Police are looking for a security guard who allegedly punched a 77-year-old woman aboard a Manhattan subway train last month, all because the senior attempted to sit next to her. According to police sources, the assault occurred at around 3:25 p.m. on April 18 aboard a Southbound D train. The train was at the Broadway-Lafayette Subway Station when the senior attempted to sit next to a woman. “You can’t sit here, it’s too hot,” the suspect allegedly said before elbowing the victim, the sources said. The perpetrator then punched the 77-year-old woman in the face. While the perpetrator fled the train, the septuagenarian suffered pain to her face and swelling. She was treated on the scene by EMS. The suspect was last seen wearing a black uniform with the words “Arrow Security” on the sleeve, and black boots. No arrests have been made. I am horrified and angered by the swastikas painted on homes and synagogues in Queens, including on a plaque honoring survivors of Kristallnacht. This is not just vandalism — it is a deliberate act of antisemitic hatred meant to instill fear.

There is no place for antisemitism in Queens or anywhere in our city. I stand in solidarity with our Jewish neighbors. Their safety, dignity, and belonging are non-negotiable.

The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating and I am confident those responsible will be held accountable.

I keep a Ring camera in an upstairs window facing the cul de sac so I can keep an eye out for deliveries, and I have the motion settings turned on, but the alerts turned off so I won't get pinged at 3 AM because some squirrel was playing in the driveway. First thing every morning I look at the "history" section of the app to see if I missed anything. As it turns out, last night I put the toter on the curb, but one neighbor with teenagers in the house must have had a get-together and one of the attendees parked their car in front of the curb where the toter was, making it tough to get to. My history showed a motion warning at 5:43 AM. A man who looked a lot like a Dad got out of his vehicle, moved the toter over in front of the mailbox so it could easily be accessed, then drove on to work. The vehicle's occupants left at 7 AM, about 15 minutes before the garbage truck arrived, so it didn't really matter. But what a thoughtful gesture on the part of the Dad. I have great neighbors...
