All my life pregnancy and birth have been pretty romanticized as this thing that will change our lives and perspectives and that women will love the experience without ever mentioning that there are a lot of dangerous factors.

Stop fear mongering people about birth. That’s the bigger problem. I don’t see people treating pregnancy like it’s no big deal. I see people trying to scare women away from doing the one thing in life that’s worth taking a small risk for. And it’s a small risk. When properly adjusted for exposure (births are infrequent events compared to driving), the risk of dying in an automobile accident is higher for the average woman.

UNPOPULAR OPINION: women can literally DIE giving birth. it is not a small thing. it is not “just what women are made for.” it is a SERIOUS, life-altering, sometimes LIFE-THREATENING medical event. stop acting like pregnancy is casual. stop pressuring women to have kids like it’s NOTHING. for some women, it costs their HEALTH. for some, it costs their BODIES. for some, it costs their LIVES.
