I could not disagree more. It's his finest work. The mistake was with the advertising. Disney did not advertise what we were getting...they advertised what it was not - "a popcorn monster movie". This happens a lot with Shyamalan films - they are hard to market because they are genre-benders. But I do also understand it from Disney's perspective too. It would be hard to sell what is a period romance film with themes of American corruption, societal evils, fear used as control by ones in power...Night's statement on the state of America post 9/11. Night was making mainstream films with indie/art-house sensibilities. A rare thing in Hollywood.
