The version numbers are a little confusing and deserve some explanation.
Internally, we are working on version 9 of our new foundation model, which is 1.5T params. This is substantially better in every way than v8: data curation, training recipe, size, etc. It is also optimized to run on a Blackwells.
The public facing v4.2 is based on foundation model v8, trained on Hoppers, with significant shortfalls in training data quality, comprehensiveness and proportionality. It is also only 0.5T in size.
The difference between Grok foundation model 8 and 9 is gigantic.

Impressions so far: Grok Build interface is actually really nice.
Now as soon as xAI has a SOTA model, it could very well become competitive with Codex / Claude Code overnight

Lot's of blood sweat and tears behind this. Not quite the best model yet but progressing really fast with larger models soon!

GOOGLE IS NEGOTIATING WITH SPACEX TO LAUNCH DATA CENTERS INTO ORBIT
Not servers in a building. Not a cloud. Literal satellites carrying AI chips. Circling Earth, powered by raw sunlight, organized in 1-kilometer arrays of 81 satellites at a time.
It's called Project Suncatcher. First prototypes up by early 2027.
The reason is simple and enormous: AI is consuming Earth's power grid faster than humanity can build power plants to feed it. Space has a star.
And stars don't send electricity bills.

A decade ago whenever I hit a technical issue I would google the error, go to the first "answered" stack overflow page and read through the comment section
Often I would eventually find the right information but it could take hours
Now my first and often last stop is Grok 🤖
