In the Iran war, the combination of missiles and drones made the problem of base vulnerability much harder bc the missiles destroyed the air-defense assets that could take down the drones, which could then be used with great precision against high-value assets. It was this combination that got the E-3. We should expect China’s missile and drone inventories on D-day to be an order of magnitude larger than Iran’s. Two years ago, it was reported that China placed an order for a million “radar killer” loitering kamikaze drones. No reason to think that they’re investing any less in missiles, whatever the Pentagon is telling Congress. defence-blog.com/china-places-m…

@policytensor From what ive seen it was the other way around. The drones hit the AD because they can avoid radar. Then the sites are attacked with conventional missiles

@JesseKellyDC Neither ukr or rus seem to be using armored vics for assaults anymore. They are using motorcycle. Speed and concealment are more important than armor now it seems.

QUESTION: Are tanks obsolete? It’s a genuine question cause I’m not expert on modern battlefield tactics. Obviously, I hear things about drones wiping them off the battlefield in Ukraine. Are tanks done?

@cmalex79 @JesseKellyDC Because the battlefield conditions are forcing those tactics. Maneuver warfare maybe obsolete. Everything is recon/strike now. If you can see them you can kill them.

@JesseKellyDC Not really. Static defensive battles are done, but we knew that back in 1917. Not sure why Russia and Ukraine haven't figured that out yet.

@Michael05807267 @ND_TechGuy @TrentTelenko Yes ive ridden in a BMP and BTR before. They suck. So does the M113. It may not give you deep vein thrombosis but it still sucks. They should buy the Bradley, or the Warrior, or any other IFV besides the M113.

@Dirty_Contract @ND_TechGuy @TrentTelenko The Ukrainian alternative is the BMP, an APC that literally has fuel tanks in the doors that are the only exit in an emergency. The M113 with its huge ramp is revolutionary in comparison. These spoilt GWOT vets really dont know how bad things can get.

This is a visual indictment of the US flag rank's leadership's vendetta against the M113. The military with the most experience with Drones combat is building a metal box AFV just like the M113 to fight top end peer-to-peer Drone warfare.
