We are very worried. Fuel prices are spiralling. People with disabilities were already struggling to heat their homes before this latest crisis. Some were already having to choose between being warm or putting food on their table! The Government cannot ignore what is happening. Provide financial assistance now! #EmergencyDisabilityPayment

Why is it Government are so quick to react to other groups when they threaten action off the back of a cost of living crisis? And rightly so but……. Government are very happy to ignore our calls in the Disabilty and Caring community for emergency supports even though the ERSI has stated we are at the greatest risk of poverty in this cost of living crisis. #EnoughIsEnough @DisabilityFed @IrishWheelchair @TomClonan @inclusion_in_fr @InclusionIre @fussireland

To celebrate International Women's Day, here's what our National Advocacy Manager Joan Carthy has to say about the significance of this day: "International Woman’s Day is not only about celebrating women, it is also a reminder of the continued work that needs to be done, for women to realise and enjoy equal rights. "My journey in disability advocacy has shown me that rights only matter when they are backed by justice and real action. International Women’s Day is a call to keep pushing for a society where every woman and girl, including disabled women, can live with dignity, voice and equal power." Joan will be speaking on a webinar with The Wheel to mark International Women's Day on Thursday 12th March. Register here: bit.ly/4ueVD6m

That is why the recruitment of these roles alongside the significant uplift in funding for specialist disability services is so important - together they must strengthen the HSE’s capacity to ensure the additional funding is translated into positive impact on the ground.

However significant challenges remain - still too many people waiting for services, disabled people are not guaranteed the same level of service in all parts of the country & there is still progress to be made towards more person-centred & rights-based supports & services.

Eric Jones was one of the hundreds of people who took to the streets of Dublin last Saturday to demand an Emergency Disability Payment. He joined the protest because of mounting bills and the huge strain this is putting on people with disabilities. #disability #disabilityrights #HeatOrEat

"Last week, home heating oil was €500 for 500 litres, above most people's ability to pay. Today, it's 725 & rising" says Ann Marie. - a consequence of the conflict in the Middle East & means many disabled people are now in even greater need of the emergency disability payment.

Fuel prices are increasing already since the conflict broke out in the Middle East. Disabled people already struggling cannot absorb these further costs. This provides further reason why the Govt must act NOW & deliver the €400 emergency Cost of Disability payment.
