The UKSC ruling was an opportunity for the government and the EHRC to step up and commit to affirm the rights of all. They've failed on every measure, choosing to peddle hate and discrimination instead. We've heard enough: Kishwer Falkner and Bridget Phillipson must resign.

If you want to help get disabled people in to work, the bare minimum would be to allow us to use our bus passes prior to 9:30 so we can use it for work. I have to take two buses instead of a thirty min walk I could have done prior to my spine injury that adds up.

Being disabled is expensive and PIP is designed to acknowledge that. It has nothing to do with employment or even income and everything to do with providing disabled people a chance at engaging with society in an equitable way. Even then it’s only a chance, not guaranteed.

Had an amazing time in Harrogate - spent most of it with my @DisabilityLD chair hat on. We passed a successful amendment to the SEND motion, had some wonderful chats with other AOs and MPs and are really looking forward to the work ahead now!

LGBT+ Lib Dems do a phenomenal job in the party and are incredible allies of LDDA. In response we hope to be able to support them, recognise intersectionality and maintain a genuine liberal voice. Harassment of their volunteers is unacceptable.

PIP should be protected and to get disabled people in to work, and indeed anyone else on a form of benefits, we must invest in the economy by investing in the NHS and hold businesses to the Equality Act.

The Liberal Democrats are fighting to ensure the Labour Government recognise the harm they are creating. PIP is there to acknowledge being disabled is expensive. Even those who can, and do, work, often spend more on living and existing than abled counterparts.

All disabled people deserve the right to exist and many disabled people are unable to engage in society because of the lack of health and work support

We inherited a fundamentally broken welfare system from the previous government. It does not work for the people it is supposed to support, businesses who need workers or taxpayers who foot the bill. This government will always protect the most severely disabled people to live with dignity. But we’re not prepared to stand back and do nothing while millions of people — especially young people — who have potential to work and live independent lives, instead become trapped out of work and abandoned by the system. It would be morally bankrupt to let their life chances waste away. When I talk about opportunity for all, I mean it. That’s why we are bringing forward the biggest changes to the welfare system in a generation and improving support for those who need it. Ensuring those who can work do work is not only right, but it will also improve living standards and drive growth, the number one priority in our Plan for Change.

I’d rather 0.4% “sponge” than even 1 disabled person lives under the poverty line.

Honestly the early 2000s mindset of most claimants/disabled people are liars is so damaging.
If we make the benefit system actually supportive, so many more people will have the health to explore work, and that’s before we actually hold businesses to account on adjustments!
