Back from a 7-day ban for telling some guy to 'self-unalive.' While I was gone, I worked on a special St. Patrick's Day gundam. The 1/144 HG-UC JEGAN (check the serial #). One of the larger kits I've worked on. Here it is next to my magnum opus, the 1/100 MG-IBO GUNDAM BARBATOS.

@revenant_MMXX One of the most persistent issues is folks thinking this will work because of not understanding second order consequences.

@CEBKCEBKCEBK Obviously by later seasons they realized their "mistake", so they introduce a "Black Communist" resistance group that forces the Japanese output singlehandedly. They wrote themselves into a corner making the mainstream resistance movements incompetent, and the result was a farce.

@CEBKCEBKCEBK The impression I got of Hitler in S1 was almost flattering. Restrained, vaguely philosophical. Lectures an assassin and former friend without fear. The resistance movements are desperate, incompetent, and nigh villainous.

Happy St Patrick’s Day! (((They))) should remake Man in the High Castle TV show to be about (((the Irish))). In the book, after Axis wins WWII, neurotic aimless antique salesmen & judo instructors in Japanese-occupied Pacific-America read samizdat alt-history where the *Allies* won WWII… but in that alt-alt-history, UK & US quickly ended Communism, then fought bad “cold war” against each other. In the background, thanks to heroic sacrifices & moral spycraft, Heydrich takes power from Goebbels. The characters—desperately searching for meaning—eventually find the man who wrote it, who doesn’t actually even live in the high castle, & who doesn’t even really believe in this dreamworld he wrote about, which anyway isn’t even ours, & which still even despite lacking both commies & nazis falls into bad Cold War type global conflict. The novel spells out its point quite clearly: “On some other world, possibly it is different. Better. There are clear good & evil alternatives. Not these obscure admixtures, w/ no proper tool by which to untangle the components. We do not have the ideal world, such as we would like, where morality is easy bc cognition is easy. Where one can do right with no effort because he can detect the obvious.” & yet Hollywood made it into unwatchable TV show about how Drumpf is Hitler; audience was clearly intended to get off on the idea of living under Nazi WWII victory (bc then resist-lib morality-larp would be “obvious”), & on the idea that politics is about consuming media content about how everything “should” have gone in the “real” ending (ie watching alt-history escapism where the Allies won is “truth-seeking” & “radical” against “fascist misinformation”). When the novel came out, it was possible to write about Nazis like this: they weren’t yet our Great Satan, eg the standard book on them (Rise & Fall of 3rd Reich) was all about how Hitler was partly continuous with Germanic history & culture & people since Luther & Bismarck & Wilhelm II, rather than some incomprehensible break you can only explain with metaphysics you must loudly denounce from fear he’ll possess you too. But now an adaption would have to eg switch the alt-history focus to WWI to get its point across. Maybe characters in present use AI trained up to Summer 1914 to predict how history “should have” played out, & it gives them something like our world but still different (eg Entente wins without Russian Revolution, but Eurasia then unifies better for WWII against Anglo-American alliance). & then you realize the people in its present aren’t in our present: in theirs, WWI was fought over the Irish crisis of summer 1914, & so for them the Irish & Jews have switched roles (“the Irish run our banks, their main export is tax scams, they took over urban machine politics & ruined cities in preening ethnonarcissist open borders chimp-radical ways, their wordcels built a spartan tradlarp anticolonial state & caused world war…”)…

@SouthernWintrs Would be fun to remake “Man in the High Castle” where Hibernians & Hebrews trade places in the 20thC imaginary: they’re the victims that evil Britain starts WWI to attack etc, & blamed for everything by radical maladjusted dissidents of their postwar order x.com/CEBKCEBKCEBK/s…

@Apis_Bicornis @pplsartofwar This seems like wishcasting to me. Arab armies remain of middling competence, more focused on internal loyalty than outside enemies. US standing decreasing would require that to change.

@pplsartofwar This is heading towards a renegotiation of the US’s position within the bloc it formerly headed imo. US will still play a role but won’t be accepted as the lead operator. Barring a total collapse to unrest internally, depending on economic fallout of this debacle

I don't believe in the vibes or narrative saying that this is a 12D chess move that will end US involvement in the middle east. Wanting a clean narrative is doesn't make it real. Iran does not have political or military leverage to force or negotiate a political outcome that forces the US to totally leave the middle east. Just as US air war cannot do regime change, ballistic missiles and drones cannot change the security infrastructure. Deterrence, yes. A cathartic removal of the US? Unlikely without an intervention from a larger great power. And even then, that would take military action.

@ArmoredNorman I'm happy that Robotech existed 45 years ago. But it's time to let it die. It has no place in a post 90s America.

I remember watching Robotech as a kid and being very very confused by the plot. Especially the part where all the main characters just disappeared and were replaced by a whole new cast with no explanation and the robots all looked completely different.

@revenant_MMXX Really, it's made all of UC Gundam impossible to talk about. Zeon is inherently meant to be sympathetic. Their ideals are the same ideals that the heroes of the sequel shows fight for. If you deny those goals as sympathetic, you undermine what the AEUG etc. fight for.

@revenant_MMXX There was a time where it wasn't this way in the Western Gundam fandom. Yes, everyone made Zeon Nazi jokes, put people also lionized Zeon and understood how an independence movement is inherently sympathetic.

The reason Gundam is so much bigger in Japan than it ever will be in the West is because Japanese people are actually capable of understanding nuance, unlike Amerishart liberals who just want to know which side are the Nazis
Marshal Bohemond ⚔️⛨ | Space Marine Vtuber@HMBohemond

It's kind of like how the original Gundam is critical of government as a whole but the Gundam 'community' strictly sees Nazis in Zeon when Zeon itself isn't fascist and Gihren didn't live long enough to take it down that road.

@oecolamp America has twofold issues with its mythology. Issue 1 is slavery etc. Issue 2 is it's impossible to square the American Rev with the modern American state and populace. A Jacobin style state with a devoted populace could square this circle. Grey, totalitarian boomerism cannot.

@oecolamp This is how I feel about The Patriot (2000). Captures the spirit of that age, the uncertainty some Americans felt about instigating a civil war. Idc if they invented one evil British officer out of whole cloth, or if the line formation tactics weren't perfectly accurate.

@GreeneMan6 That PF Jung channel on YouTube has been pushing the same idea. "The right is right about immigration, the left is right about inequality". "Does the left have any useful proposals to reduce wealth inequality?" "Nope." "Will the left compromise on immigration?" "Nope."

@NapoleonBonabot There's an argument against naming ships after too prominent leaders. Yamato was a name and symbol for Japan. Sending her on dangerous missions became unthinkable because of the morale shocks it would invite. Something like the "Marechal Ney" has a good ring.

@CEBKCEBKCEBK Didn't Farage try to get Lowe arrested on trumped up charges? That seems to me the source of this split. There's questions about how committed Farage is, and these are aggravated by him acting like Reform is his personal gang.

On the one hand, both Reform & Restore back net negative migration, deporting every illegal, scrapping asylum, etc, & only Reform stands any chance at winning, & it’s been building for years; on the other, Lowe said he should be in charge of Reform, got kicked out, & is le based.

In 2019 Lowe stood down from Farage’s Brexit Party to support Boriswave Tories; now Lowe’s trying to disorganizedly split votes from Farage with rival sets of old Tories by shouting identical immigration platforms in ~moar based~ ways to help fat old youtuber moralists feel masc.

@nekoronogatari @robertlasagna1 FMA is arguable because the ending itself is good and was obviously planned out early, since 2003 uses a lot of the same beats for its ending. But there was also clearly a fantasy China arc planned that just got dropped.

If you had read literally hundreds of manga series like me you'd know that this is not a new development somehow and it is budgeted in. It's a cultural thing, and the manga industry is pop corn slop entertainment. The issue is not "spiritual", it is serialisation, which is also why your precious western "TV shows" suck. You demand a never ending pop corn bucket and then complain that the bottom tastes bad, when the real problem is you've had toouch pop corn
Isaac Young@HariSel57511397

I think it’s an obvious sign that Japan is infected with a similar spiritual crisis to the West since apparently no mainstream mangaka can end their stories well. Like, we’re having these controversies every few months.
