From Saint Sophia Cathedral to ice prints you can take home—Harbin turns winter into something unforgettable.
Ice printmaking, created in 2005 by Zhu Xiaodong, vice chairman of the Harbin Artists Association, uses natural ice blocks as the printing medium. Today, it is recognized as a provincial-level intangible cultural heritage of Heilongjiang.

Ice and snow may fade, but Harbin’s charm never melts.
Here’s your Harbin spring guide:
1. Dream Ice & Snow Hall
Located inside the Harbin Ice-Snow World, this is the world’s largest indoor ice-and-snow theme park, kept below freezing year-round. Iconic installations from the winter season are preserved here, allowing visitors to enjoy ice art in any season.
2. Harbin Hot Snow Miracle
An 80,000 m² indoor ski resort with year-round temperatures between -5°C and -3°C. Skiing and snow fun continue no matter the season.
3. Yabuli Ski Resort
Spring is arguably the best time to ski in Yabuli. With milder temperatures and soft, powdery snow, it offers ideal conditions for both experienced skiers and beginners.
Snow may melt, but Harbin’s hospitality stays in season all year.

A rare sighting of the “wetland sprite” — the Northern Lapwing — has been captured in Harbin’s Songhua River wetlands.
Recently, a group of these nationally protected birds, listed as Near Threatened (NT) on the IUCN red list, was spotted in the city. With their distinctive black crests, iridescent green plumage, and elegant posture, the birds were seen strolling through the soft morning light. Their curved crests, reminiscent of ancient helmets, and shimmering wings stood out against lingering snow and pale spring grass, forming a vivid early-spring tableau.
Northern Lapwings are highly sensitive to habitat quality, typically inhabiting open wetlands, riverbanks, and farmlands, feeding on insects, snails, and small fish. The appearance of flocks in Harbin is yet another sign of the city’s steadily improving ecological environment.
