I just thought of an unexpected source of leverage Syria may have over Israel regarding the Israeli occupation of the South. With the Strait of Hormuz now effectively unreliable due to the confrontation with Iran, a secure energy corridor through Syria becomes a strategic necessity for the Gulf states and the US. They cannot afford an unstable Syria where continued Israeli occupation threatens one of the only viable alternative routes. That could translate into significant pressure on Israel to de-escalate. Otherwise, the alternative is prolonged instability in global energy markets.

Turkey is outside my area of expertise, so correct me if I’m wrong. In almost every conflict around the world, Turkey is on the opposite side of the United States. How can Turkey be our ally? Why should we give it any fraction of our technology?

@DisputingSunnah it’s not secret that, historically, Saudi Arabia armed the Palestinians up until the events of 9/11.

Saudi Arabia wants a Palestinian state so it can keep support it financially, help strengthen its defense capabilities, and rally international alliances behind it as part of any normalization agreement. That is not something Israel wants. On the other hand, Saudi Arabia will not normalize relations with Israel, and the United States is not in a position to force Saudi Arabia to do so. Saudi Arabia is not Venezuela, with all due respect. You’re talking about the home of Islam’s two holiest sites and a major economic, political, and cultural Empire with a wide network of global alliances.
