More than 6000 cases of arson, loot, murder and rape were reported during 2021 post poll violence. A BJP functionary sent me a folder containing hundreds of videos and gory pictures. Police was doing absolutely nothing. There were other videos which showed women claiming they were being summoned by TMC Muslim functionaries to spend nights at their homes as punishment for their campaigning for BJP. One frightened young man was sending SOS messages. His house had been visited by TMC goons more than once. The boy had locked himself inside his house. His last WhatsApp call came post midnight. In a trembling voice he said “Sir ye log aaj raat ko mujhe maar dalenge”. All that myself and others could do in this situation was post those videos, pictures on SM and send messages to people we knew. The boy did survive that night. But those few days and nights were enough to make anyone insane. The fear in that voice and the barbarity in those videos is something I will carry till my last breath. I will be candid. My belief in democracy was shaken that day. Democracy, a system of governance which was conceived for the well being of people had itself become a reason for repeated orgies of violence. And what was worse- Central intervention, in this state of absolute lawlessness, was being calibrated on the scale of political correctness. “How would it be prudent to invoke 355 or 356 against a Govt which had just won such a huge mandate”, “Wouldn’t it further raise Mamata’s stock as a politician”, “What if the Supreme Court dismissed 356 imposition”? All sorts of questions were being deliberated while people in the state continued to suffer. And for what? For exercising their democratic choice. Democracy had descended into mobocracy, and nobody had the moral courage to call out that bluff. The very powers enshrined in a Federal democracy had become an instrument for the hunters to keep the vulnerable birds captive in a cage. My biggest grudge with PM Modi will also remain his inaction after that violence. Maddened opposition and TMC supporters were dismissive about the whole thing. Some even said that “Political violence is Bengal’s culture”. Political bitterness of the last two decades has made me understand that there will always be some psychos who will defend everything including rapes and murders because of their political proclivities. But ethnic and linguistic conceit from nationalists is something I have still not come to terms with. “Bengal is not everyone’s cup of tea. There is no dearth of pundits who pretend to know how to straighten the province from their high seats” It is not difficult to sense the contempt and loathing beneath the supposed verbal eloquence. How dare a non Bengali comment on anything related to Bengal. One can have opinions about UP, Bihar, Haryana and Gujarat. But Bengal! No Sirs, Bengal is not an enigma. While the country appreciates Bengali art and aesthetics, respects its icons more than the Bengalis themselves, the state’s continuous decay is all too apparent in its cold numbers. Its culture of political violence is a shame for 21st century India. But for the war like mobilisation of troops in the state, this election too would have left many dead. Nobody knows what will happen on May 4th. May BJP win. But the spectre of violence looms over the state if TMC returns to power. Maybe not immediately but after a month or two. Maybe sporadically and randomly, and not as a pogrom like last time. In many of my replies I made it clear that the comments were not meant to broad brush the state. But even supposed intellectuals chose vanity over nuance. Mobilising lakhs of troops every election is keeping democracy on a ventilator. A radical solution has to be found to restore normal democracy. Any way, I have deleted my Original Post. Not because I care for regional chauvinists but because I value request from a friend.

Christians from Benaulim, Goa, are asking to ban Sanatan and Sanatani through out the Goa. Demanding a ban on "Sanatan" in the very land reclaimed from the sea by Bhagwan Parashuram? For centuries, Goan Hindus endured the brutality of the Inquisition and forced conversions. Yet, the "interloper" label is being weaponized against the indigenous faith of the soil. This isn't just about Benaulim, it’s a systematic attempt to erase the pre-colonial Hindu identity of Goa. The government must stop playing the dangerous game of appeasement politics. Protecting Hindu rights isn't optional, it’s a debt to history. Goa is, and will always be, the land of Sanatan.

Demand hafta for every construction. Extort protection money from businesses. Terrorise students in Colleges. Kill the political opponents. Rape their women. Blame the rape victims instead. Orchestrate orgies of violence on every polling day. Hang people by the poles and trees for their party affiliation. One has to be a morally reprehensible creature and a complete bigot to sympathise with such a reign and wish the repeat of all of it because it will happen to people you deeply loathe.

फ्रांसिस जेवियर ने कभी भाजपा की आलोचना नहीं की थी। ना ही किसी कांग्रेसी या आपिये के साथ उनकी फोटो मिली है। वो तो कृपाशंकर सिंह की तरह हिंदुओं और संघ को आतंकवादी बताने वाली किसी किताब की लांच में भी शामिल नहीं रहे थे। इससे सिद्ध होता है कि वे कहीं ना कहीं मन में ज्योति फूले और बाबासाहेब की तरह हिंदुत्व का भाव‌ रखते थे। वैसे भी गोवा में हिंदुत्व ईसाइयत के बिना अधूरा है। और ईसाइयत वैसे भी बौद्ध दर्शन से प्रभावित है और भारत बुद्ध का देश है ही। इसलिए फ्रांसिस जेवियर को बुरा-भला कहना बंद किजिए क्योंकि अब वे नव-हिंदुत्व के नए नायकों की सूची में स्थान बना चुके हैं।
