In the last week it feels as if Spring has finally flluttered into the hills and dales of the Peak District. The lanes are filled with blackbirds, the moors ring with the curlew’s song, the trees are proudly bearing their brand new green on every twig, and there are daffodils in all the verges. These weeks are some of the best of the whole year for me; when Nature feels poised, teetering, on the cusp of spilling over, but with all that promise still to come, still ahead of us. 📍 Peak District, England ©Peaklass, all real, no AI

Every so often I like to share a ‘living’ photograph, so that you can hear and hopefully feel the peace of the scene, as well as see it. This was my view this morning, and I honestly never wanted to leave. Only 5 days to go until Christmas in my Top 10 Christmas Countdown, where I'm sharing one of my own favourite Peak District festive photos every day until the big day. This is my little home village of Hathersage, still sleeping as the snow softly fell and the lights twinkled. Only a few hardy souls were out on this particular morning, and me in my wellies. The George looked so inviting but as much as I peered hopefully through the windows, it stayed shut. Hathersage has strong associations with Charlotte Bronte, and The George is featured in her classic novel ‘Jane Eyre’. I hope she got to see it dreaming in the silent snow. © Peaklass

You can't help but think that, were Howden Dam to be built today, the architecture would be much more functional and far less beautiful. Happily, those who designed it more than a century ago saw fit to make it soar out of the water like the turrets of a sunken castle or the towers of drowned churches. I hope they lived to see their hard work and vision reflected in the still water on a misty Autumn morning. #peakdistrict
