@JesperAdolf @AlexanderJ91756 I appreciate the goal. Lets be real, this is a big endeavor many dont realize. There is a good reason reason it hasn't happened. NASA attempted with the shuttle. Some just want to pretend those guys were inferior to space x. Those guys now work for space x.

@JesperAdolf @AlexanderJ91756 Cars are 100% reusable but it doesnt mean its worth doing. Restore a car and find out even though you reuse 60% of it the cost spent to inspect, refurbish and replace its much more. There is a threshold to repair vs replace. Its often cheaper to start over with a new car

I’ve been in big development projects where critical key technologies did not have a solution and the project proceeded with all other stuff anyway, resulting in their cancellation. That experience doesn’t necessarily mean SpaceX has a similar issue, but it shows that big projects can proceed far longer than they should before being cancelled or goals being completely redefined.

Well that was a very exciting flight! Definitely a bit disappointed that the booster landing burn didn't go to plan but the rest of the boosters flight was phenomenal and incrementally better than the last flight. The landing burn seemed comparable to B10's landing burn which resulted in B11 also being expended. With how complex booster catches will be at Pad 2 I can only assume this likely means no booster catch on Starship Flight 14. That unfortunately means another expended Super Heavy and probably sets back the launch schedule a little bit in the last quarter of the year which was likely relying on booster reuse. However, the ship was able to successfully demonstrate the first in-space relight with the Raptor 3 engine and ended the mission with another successful landing burn and splashdown and for the first time it was soft enough for the ship to stay in one piece! That is a MASSIVE win for the thermal protection team and judging by the reactions on stream a huge surprise to the entire SpaceX team. Normally tile data can only be gathered from the aft end of the vehicle post-explosion and which limits data collection on the fwd end of the vehicle due to it breaking off and sinking rapidly. There appeared to be more in-flight tile damage this time around compared to the last flight and this could be due to the added stresses at MaxQ. Hopefully the ship's performance today will provide confidence in launching to orbit and performing a ship catch soon! I think the chances that Starship Flight 14 could be the first ship catch attempt have gone up quite a bit now! I guess the number 13 isn't so bad after all!

Just another reminder since Starship’s 13th test flight was pushed to today: If you see Starship land softly in the ocean later today, and then blow up after tipping over, that’s completely normal. It actually means the flight has succeeded! After a couple of perfect splashdowns in the ocean, SpaceX will catch the ship with a tower back on land, just like they did the booster.

As a longtime automotive technician, I have noticed through the years that almost every time manufacturers come up with new and improved it ends up costing the car owner more money. Here is one example. A simple thermostat, which served us fine for years has now been replaced with a water control valve that is actuated by the car’s computer. So we went from a part that cost around $15 to one that now is much more expensive and much more complicated. Not sure the tiny benefit of more precise engine temperature control is worth it. Often times better to keep it simple.

@rdd147 @C_S_Skeptic Notice they dont try to land boosters anymore. Perhaps reusablity isnt profitable in the real world. I suspect its like rebuilding a 300,000mi car. Less labor costs to build from then to disassemble, inspect/test, repair reassemble.

It should be incredibly disappointing to all Tesla bulls that Robotaxi is already running v15 and it's STILL not remotely good enough to ramp to even 1600 cars nationwide by end of year. Think about that. Maybe v17 in 2029 will be the one.
