So when the scriptures say "She was pregnant and cried out in pain as she was about to give birth" - That is actually Israel being pregnant with Jesus? What time period does this refer to? And the woman is described as being out of the serpents reach: "The woman was given the two wings of a great eagle, so that she might fly to the place prepared for her in the wilderness, where she would be taken care of for a time, times and half a time, out of the serpent’s reach." After that the serpent becomes enraged as goes after her offspring: "Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to wage war against the rest of her offspring—those who keep God’s commands and hold fast their testimony about Jesus" Does this mean that all this time Israel has been out of the serpents reach and the offspring of Israel (the church i pressume?) has not? Mary was pregnant with a male child who will rule all nations Immediately after Mary gave birth Herod seeks to kill her child. After that Mary flees into Egypt and is out of Herod's reach The woman in revelation 12 is pregnant with a male child who will rule all nations and immediately after she gave birth the dragon seeks to kill the child. After that she flees and is out of the serpent's reach Couldn't it be that the scripture just refers to the literal woman who gave birth to Jesus? Why does this idea upset modern american protestant so much? I'm asking this as a protestant I believe the text here is obviously has multiple symbolic meanings. Mary being one of them. And why would this woman be revealed right after the ark? At least more people are starting to give me an answer but they still don't engage specifically with the points I bring up.

@KalebAtlanta @AngloVarangian So if a hospital is bombed for example and an orthodox Christian couple dies alongside their baby who is not yet baptized, will the baby be damned but the parents potentially entering heaven without their child?

I'm not a native English speaker, the book isn't called "Revelation" in most languages in Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese it's called "apocalypse" in Spanish "Apocalipsis" In Hebrew if you translate the name directly into English the book it's called "Vision of John" In my language the book is called "Johannes' Åbenbaring" No I don't read the book in English. "If you don't know that you don't know anything" - this is the most ridiculous standard, so people who don't know English don't know anything? Even many native English speakers seem to add an "s" sometimes. It's a ridiculous point to attack and you know it. Try to actually engage with the subject. The symbolism is layered and obviously has multiple references, one of them being Mary. Mary was pregnant with a male child who will rule all nations Immediately after Mary gave birth Herod seeks to kill her child. The woman in revelation 12 is pregnant with a male child who will rule all nations and immediately after she gave birth the dragon seeks to devour the child. This woman is revealed right after the ark of the covenant Then God’s temple in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenant was seen…” followed by her appearance in the next chapter “And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun…” This is significant due to the parallel story of Mary and the ark which is demonstrated in these pictures.

You lost me at "Revelations" plural. The Book's title is "Revelation" singular. If you don't know that, you don't know anything.
COP@Dlacp12

Mary is the mother of all believers and crowned in Revelations 12: "A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head. She was pregnant and cried out in pain as she was about to give birth... ...The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that it might devour her child the moment he was born. 5 She gave birth to a son, a male child, who “will rule all the nations with an iron scepter..." You claim this is solely about the israel/the church but it isn't just the church - the church didn't give birth to Christ. The woman (Mary) is pregnant with a son who will rule all nations (Jesus Christ) the dragon wanted devour the child the moment he was born (Satan, through the actions of Herod) After the Archangel Michael throws Satans down at the end of the chapter, and after the devil fails to devour the woman and her male child it says: "Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to wage war against the rest of her offspring—those who keep God’s commands and hold fast their testimony about Jesus." Here there is a seperation between the woman and the church. The church are those who "keep God’s commands and hold fast their testimony about Jesus." These are called the "offspring" of the woman. Mary is the mother of all believers. Christ also proclaims her as the mother of his disciple in John during the crucifixion: John 19:26-27 "When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home." Also, the original greek texts didn't have chapters and verse numbers. Right before Revelations 12 at the end of revelations 11 it says "Then God’s temple in heaven was opened, and within his temple was seen the ark of his covenant..." After this revelation 12 begins with revealing Mary, the woman crowned with 12 stars who gives birth to the male child who will rule all nations and whos offspring keeps the testimony of Jesus. She is the ark of the new covenant. I am a protestant and I don't agree with every catholic claim, but stop these endless exaggerated accusations against them.

Revelation 17 describes the whore of babylon. Surely you're not saying that the woman in revelation 12 that gave birth to the one who will rule all nations is the same as the woman in revelation 17? The woman in revelation 12 is the enemy of the dragon "Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to wage war against the rest of her offspring—those who keep God’s commands and hold fast their testimony about Jesus." - Her offspring are the ones who hold fast their testimony about Jesus (the church) Can you do me a favor and finally just be the first out of EVERYONE i asked here to just answer the simple question: The woman in revelation 12 who gives birth to the boy child, the one who will rule all nations and whom the dragon seeks to devour the moment he is born - WHO IS THE WOMAN? You are very cool if you answer that question as the first.

I know but my main point was the woman in revelation is going through the exact same thing Mary went through. Who is the woman in revelation 12 that is pregnant and gives birth to a boy child, the one who will rule all nations and whos child the dragon want to devour the moment he is born? Who could that be? And why is it SO horrible to even think that this could just be Mary?

Maybe you could be the first to actually engage with the topic? Mary give birth to the one who will rule all nations. Immediately after Mary gave birth Herod seeks to kill her child 1. The woman in revelation 12 is pregnant and gives birth to the one who will rule all nations: "... She was pregnant and cried out in pain as she was about to give birth... She gave birth to a son, a male child, who “will rule all the nations with an iron scepter..." 2. The dragon seeks to kill her child immediately after she give birth "... The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that it might devour her child the moment he was born." Jesus Christ refers to Mary multiple times as "woman" obviously the woman in revelation is also a reference to Mary. Can you tell me how this is NOT in any way a reference to Mary? And why this woman is revealed right after the vision of the ark of the covenant given the parallel story of Mary and the ark? What is actually even so horrible about Mary being referenced here? Two people now blocked me one claiming I wasn't even a christian if I believed there was any reference to Mary in revelation 😂 Which in that case would mean that before the reformation for at least 600-1400 you cannot point me to a single christian country, a single christian church or even a single christian...... Why is this such an enormous deal to modern american protestants? I'm asking this as a protestant myself.

I'm not catholic and whether catholics believe she was in pain or not is none of my concern. Jesus Christ refers to Mary multiple times as "woman" obviously the woman in revelation is also a reference to Mary. Can you tell me WHY exactly that is so horrible? I'm a protestant and I don't understand why modern american protestants have such an aversion to Mary that ANY obvious reference to her is denied with such conviction? Why? You realize this doesn't prove catholicism as a whole true right?

@Dlacp12 @farmingandJesus The fact that she cried out in pain is one sure fire tell that it isn't Mary. Catholics clain mary was sinless, therefore she would have been exempt of from the pains of labor. Also the 12 jewels represent the 12 tribes of Isreal. You know that alot it is not literal

A "right to her attention" what? She wrote a public post - I commented on that respectfully and disagreed with me. She freely decided to give and attention and instead of engaging with any point I made she mocked me for mistakenly adding an "s" when quoting revelation. When I pointed out that english wasn't my first language (it's not called revelation in my language) and pointed out that she didn't address my arguments she decided to accuse me of not reading revelation since i added an "s" (ironically I don't read it in english) immediately after accusing me she then blocks me so I cannot answer. It's cowardly and bad behavior. She doesn't have to give any attention and I never demanded any. If she hadn't responded I would not have kept spamming her Accusing someone after insulting them and then giving them no opportunity to respond is bad behavior. It has nothing to do with claiming a "right" to her attention. But I think you know that.

There is nothing in the text indicating whether he recognized her or not. Jesus called her "woman" multiple times while recognizing her. But even if he didn't he also didn't recognize Jesus in the form he appears in right in the beginning of revelation. Since I respectfully answered all of your questions, please respectfully answer mine. The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that it might devour her child the moment he was born." Can you please just answer this one question and tell me how this is not a reference to Mary given how this is exactly what happens to Mary and given the fact that Jesus Christ himself referred to her as woman? Also why does the revelation comes right after the ark is revealed when Mary underwent a parallel story to the ark? Isn't this just a bit of a coincidence? I don't even understand what the big deal is here - what is so horrible about a reference to Mary? I'm a protestant but it seems modern american protestants have some absurd aversion to Mary. She says herself in Luke 1:48 "for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant. For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed" The fact that the woman in revelation 12 is also a symbol of Mary doesn't somehow prove catholicism right.

No she didn't and the text doesn't mention twelve children. It mentions a crown of twelve stars which the woman wears on her head. The woman is only pregnant with one male child who will rule all the nations. The dragon tries to devour the child the moment she give births so she has to flee. Exactly like Mary did with Christ. The church didn't give birth to Christ and Israel didn't flee with Christ to protect him - so claiming the woman is JUST the church/israel is not sufficient. Lizzie is a coward who blocked me after two other responses she made where she didn't address any of the points I made. She now also deleted many of those.

There is no book of revelationS and that’s not about Mary The 12 stars are the 12 tribes. It’s about Israel and the church.

"There is no book of revelationS" Stop the nonsense I'm not a native english speaker. It's a normal mistake to make. Now be serious and address the points because you didn't address a single one: HOW did the church give birth to Jesus? the woman (Mary) gives birth to the male child who will rule all nations (Jesus) and whos offspring keeps the testimony of Jesus (the church). Answer the questions instead of focusing on nonsense. Why does the story of Mary correspond with the ark of the covenant? How can the woman only be the church when the woman gives birth to Christ himself?

Not supporting stoning a woman for adultery is not the same as not supporting the death penalty. Either way - was the magisterial teaching of the Roman Catholic church wrong back then and now corrected? And if that is the case how do you the current teaching is not wrong and will be corrected in the future? What part of the church authority is infallible in that case?

Are you being serious here? "A crime was committed and the punishment is death" - you left out the entire context. Is the crime and manner of execution completely irrelevant to you, honestly? Do you see a difference between these two scenarios: 1. A group of people throwing stones at a woman until she dies because committed adultery 2. A guilty p3dophile receives the death penalty and gets executed in an electric chair. Most people who believes in the death penalty in the west would support number 2 but not number 1. If you honestly can't see the difference I don't know what to tell you. And my questions remains unanswered. If the death penalty is always morally wrong does this mean the magisterial teaching of the church was wrong when it supported the use of the death penalty in the council of Trent?
