One of my proudest moments is representing my country and people at the UN. Multilateral diplomacy has tremendous untapped potential. As MS strive for sustainable development in its various dimensions, we remain committed to strengthening int. cooperation.🤝🇯🇲 #throwback #UNGA73

@yaneekpage Yes indeed. Provocation is seriously outdated, ought to be abolished, and should be replaced with “loss of control”.

Do I believe the Chief Justice fulfilled his duty? Yes. Grateful the proceedings were streamed live. Am I happy? No. Melissa is GONE. 3 boys lost their mom in the most tragic way. ALL his children have also their dad. Mel’s family & friends are still grieving. But what’s next? There are 19 female Members of Parliament. I expect even one to examine whether it’s time to propose that Jamaica follow New Zealand in closing the legal loophole called "provocation" allowing murderers to argue that their victims "pushed them to it," downgrading murder to manslaughter. *my summation* In 2009, New Zealand took a stand, abolishing it entirely after the New Zealand Law Commission specifically pointed out that the defense was overwhelmingly used by men who killed their female partners. Sunday is International Women’s Day. It could not be more timely. Again, over to you Jamaica.

Jamaican former world boxing champion Mike McCallum has died at the age of 68. According to preliminary reports, McCallum fell ill on Saturday while on his way to the gym. He reportedly pulled his car off the road, where police later found him unresponsive. McCallum, affectionately known as “The Bodysnatcher” for his devastating body punches, was a trailblazer in the sport. He became the first Jamaican to win a world boxing title in 1984 when he defeated Irishman Sean Mannion by unanimous decision to claim the WBA Junior Middleweight (Super Welterweight) crown. Over the course of his distinguished career, McCallum captured world titles in three weight classes: •WBA Super Welterweight Champion (1984–1988) •WBA Middleweight Champion (1989–1991) •WBC Light Heavyweight Champion (1994–1995) He retired with an impressive professional record of 49 wins, including 36 knockouts, with 5 losses and 1 draw. Notably, McCallum was never stopped in the ring, a testament to his durability and iron will. McCallum’s technical prowess, granite chin, and punishing bodywork made him one of the most respected fighters of his era. His excellence was recognized in 2003 when he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame, and again in 2011, when The Ring magazine ranked him eighth among the best middleweight champions of the last 50 years. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, on December 7, 1956, McCallum’s legacy continues to inspire generations of Caribbean fighters. He leaves behind a lasting mark not only on Jamaican sports history but on the global boxing world.

Before I started yesterday's meetings I had the best morning with the women of @mfaftja . For my 9 years there, the only historical photos on the walls have been the former Foreign Ministers (who were all men) After a particularly inspiring meeting (about which I will share another time) PS and I agreed that a wall for Jamaican Women in Diplomacy was a fitting way to reflect the extensive roles which we have been playing over the years! We have started with our core Ministry posts and each year will add other historical dimensions. I am so looking forward to this expanded reflection of the work of incredible Jamaican Women in Diplomacy. I am blessed to share space. Our first honorees are Jeanette Grant - Woodham 1st female MOS (and also 1st female President of the Senate) ; Amb Gail Mathurin, the Ministry's first female PS; and Amb Carmen Parris, Jamaica's 1st female Ambassador. Today 6/7 of our executive team are Women, 23 of 28 senior managers are Women, 10 of 19 Heads of Mission are Women and 10 of 19 deputies are also Women! We not only speak of fostering women's leadership abilities, we LIVE it every day! Happy #IWD to my current PS @MonteithSheila and my former PS @MYGil_Roberts - two incredible women who hold/ have held the helm of the Foreign Service, and provided me with indispensable support, and Happy #IWD25 to every member of my amazing @mfaftja team! May we continue to empower others, give of our best, and be our best selves in service to JamaicaLandWeLove!

The Yaad expresses condolences to the loved ones of Valerie Neita Robertson, KC. For the past 2 years, we have been documenting her efforts in the ‘70s, as while a student at Wolmer's Girls’, she helped organise a large protest after Wolmer’s barred Black girls from wearing afros
