Farming is unpredictable. And, there are steps you can take to manage. The Hay Are You Okay? self-assessment is an anonymous tool designed to help you better understand your stress and how it's showing up in your life. And, if you need help, that's there too. In her latest blog post, Executive Director Merle Massie explains why jokes and offhand comments about mental health in agriculture aren’t harmless—and introduces a tool to help recognize when language creates barriers rather than openings, reminding us that the way we talk shapes the culture we build. By recognizing these attitudes and responding differently, everyone can help build a culture where mental health is supported and prioritized. Happy Spring Equinox! Spring light does something to us that we don't always name. After months of darkness, our bodies respond to longer days—mood stabilizes, energy returns, sleep improves. It's biology: sunlight regulates serotonin, triggers vitamin D, resets our internal systems. Getting outside matters more than we give it credit for. #FarmerMentalHealth #RuralWellness

Why Mental Health Conversations Matter More Than Ever in Agriculture Mental health in agriculture isn’t just a conversation—it’s one we need to keep having. And having honestly. In this episode of The Impact Farming Show, I sit down with Merle Massie, Executive Director of Do More Ag for a real and open conversation about what’s really going on beneath the surface in farming today. Together, they explore: • How farmers are really doing right now • The pressures that go far beyond weather and markets • The truth about mental health in agriculture when you go a layer deeper • Merle’s personal family story with mental health and suicide • A candid discussion on risk factors, hindsight, and breaking the silence • The ongoing challenges around stigma, awareness, and access to support • The work Do More Ag is doing to support farmers across Canada This episode is powerful, important, and one that reminds us: no one should have to carry this alone. 🎧 Listen/watch now and be part of the conversation. farmmarketer.com/Resources/Reso… And if this resonates—share it. You never know who might need to hear it. @domoreag #mentalhealth #farming #agriculture

This week is Canadian Agricultural Safety Week, led by @planfarmsafety, reminding us that farm safety and mental health are connected. Exhaustion, stress, and overwhelm affect our ability to make clear decisions, notice hazards, and react quickly when things go wrong. Mental wellbeing isn't separate from farm safety, it's part of what keeps operations running safely. Safe farms need people who have the capacity to stay alert and present. That means rest, support, and managing stress matter for more than just mental health—they matter for safety too. Once spring starts, everything moves fast. That's why we set things up now: small systems for checking in, winding down, and protecting what we need to function well. They're easy to ignore until we need them, and by then it's harder to build them. What systems are you putting in place before spring? #RuralWellness #FarmerMentalHealth #CdnAg

People in agriculture are building incredible things beyond the fields: orchards, cabins, wind phones, ski trails. What have you built on yours just for fun? Grab your phone, open voice notes, and tell us. Your story could be featured on Hay Are We Okay? 🎙️ #FarmerMentalHealth #AgCommunity #RuralWellness

Why do blue trees open up mental health conversations? Kendall Whyte explains: grab some mates, start painting, and conversations flow. Men communicate better side by side, hands busy, working together. Simple. Effective. Community-led. Content note: Discusses suicide.
