@BentleyAudrey I don’t know the person or the situation so I don’t know how unlikely that scenario would be, but you did ask for our first thoughts and with no other info or personal knowledge that’d have to be mine. (Not trying to impugn whoever it is! Just based on the little I know.)

To my security folks: Say an individual did DNA (autosomal) testing with three major at home DNA testing companies...all three of them claimed they didn't receive the samples and instead of sending a new one (Standard procedure) they provided a refund. The individual followed the tracking number and claims the labs did in fact receive the sample despite their claims. What's your first thought?

@be_like_ice They sell just the broth. You could give just the juice to her in a bowl for nutrition, and then for eating, separate dry food.

My cat is SO WASTEFUL with wet foods! I have tried them all and she only ever seems to lick the juice and leave the meat. Does any other cat owners have this problem? If so have you resolved it? I'm wasting so much cat food it's becoming a joke.

@tombrewsports @Jaberuski I know someone whose work is performed in airports. On a trip to one particular country, they flew into airport, spent all day in meetings and inspections , and flew home. Never set foot outside airport. But it counted as a “work day” for that country’s visa purposes, so yes.

@UK_Daniel_Card Starbucks is disgusting but last time I was so desperate I had to go there once. Actually I think the little vegan restaurant had decent coffee but of course they didn’t have real creamer. 🤔

Two things can be true: $28 lunch every day is not a good financial decision, and economic parameters have changed such that basic things that might have been achievable for Boomers are no longer givens for younger generations. A lot of people feel trapped. And the response seems to be a reference to Boomer luxury beliefs. Costs are high, real estate is expensive. Basic staples like groceries are harder to afford. Even fixing up a starter house is more expensive now because of commodities tariffs. You can eat a lot of $3 lunches. You can do what we did and buy a crappy $180K house and work your way up. But you have to acknowledge that the curve is much steeper now, for many reasons beyond our control.

For about two hours this morning, as I was getting ready to leave the house to run errands, Boudicca kept approaching me and was far more talkative than usual. She even came in the bathroom and started meowing at me when I stepped out of the shower. Couldn't figure out why she was acting like this. When I came home to eat lunch, I realized that her crinkly fish was missing from its usual spot. Spent the better part of an hour searching the house and finally found it stuck under a piece of furniture. It is now back in its proper place under the dining room table.

It's a semi-regular phenomenon that Europeans fly to the Yukon, walk into the woods and are never seen again. They figure there will eventually be some village where they can stock up on supplies, but the only points on their map are temporary camps that have been abandoned since the Gold Rush.

Every few months or so, a post like this makes the rounds and you see the same types of posts There’s plenty of reasons a nurse may ask a parent to leave the room, and as a child and adolescent psychiatrist, plenty of reasons I may ask the same Any suspicion of abuse is the obvious, and data has shown this unequivocally over and over that parents/guardians are the most likely perpetrators of that Asking sensitive questions re: sexuality and or gender identity, as well as sexual activity is another obvious one; personally, I will try to ask with parents in room as I believe in communication and honesty, but it is the most common reason a kid would ask the parent to step out of the room for a bit Along with this, substance use and/or misuse round out the obvious ones With a bit more nuance, the vibes are just off with a parent in the room and I get a sense that the kid just isn’t being fully truthful; ask the parent to leave for a bit, and a whole new kid reveals themselves in the office Another reason is that there is just a lot of emotion between the family members in the room, parent putting the kid down repeatedly, tons of arguing, even potential aggression both ways, and overall not helpful with having a parent or child in the room at the same time and need to separate them I try to have the parents in the room as much as possible, but I ultimately leave it up to the kid who stays there, which includes myself and/or my resident, as I want to encourage patient autonomy, even to my 5 and 6 year old patients: you control who and what with your body and health And that all goes into my speech on day one of working with a patient before I even ask them what brings them in So if healthcare professional wants to talk to your child alone, there’s probably a good reason for it I would hope they would be able to communicate that to all involved

@sulmoney Took a child to the ER with bad facial cuts after a bike accident. Later he said “They must not have been listening to my dad when he told them what happened, because when you were all gone they asked me again.” We understood exactly why he was asked again and were glad they did.

@jasonc_nc For weeks or even months with a new mom to help out (even with “non-working” new moms) which would be a huge help for most new parents. But I don’t ever recall and haven’t heard of it being typical for grandparents to watch grandkids 40 hours/week on an ongoing basis? 4/4

@jasonc_nc And women in Silent Generation before that often never worked again after marriage and/or children. So when did grandparents frequently watch grandkids on a regular daily basis? I do remember that it was very common for non-working moms or sisters to come stay …. 3/?

I’ve yet to see real data but anecdotally it seems boomer grandparents are largely disinterested in being childcare providers, in a departure from the past. Makes me think that’s also why childcare has become such an urgent discussion. A formerly broad labor supply vanished.
