@wesstreeting Dear Mr Streething, I fucked off to Canada after CCT because the NHS you so proudly run imposed a hiring freeze and I couldn’t get a job. Now I’m back doing a bit of locum work and earning serious coin during the strikes. Thanks for pissing off another generation of doctors.

Resident doctors have been left with no choice but to strike. Weeks of negotiations with the Government have failed to deliver enough progress on pay, with the goalposts being moved at the last minute. We have called six days of industrial action to make the Government listen, stop the game playing, and come back with an offer that delivers fairly on both jobs and pay.

This is absolute madness! Tube Drivers would be paid more than *SURGEONS* under new greedy RMT Union pay demands. The sooner we automate the London Underground, the better! I'll be on GB News tonight at 9:20pm to discuss this with the excellent @Alexarmstrong. Tune In!

@DoctorsVoteUK We will recommend yes to a pay deal giving our members less than what they got during COVID. That was your lot, wasn’t it?

How can I forget, we will be releasing a survey on whether people want to press the switch. It will be 50 questions long.

We are in ongoing talks with the switch. These talks have remained constructive. While we have a mandate to press the switch, we have no intention of pressing it. We will not provide a running commentary on whether the switch remains switched or unswitched.

Surely you're not proposing that our union actually does something!? What an absolutely HORRIFYING thought, actually fighting for its members interests instead of student activism and CV padding for careerists.

In 24 years as HSJ editor I’ve interviewed PMs & countless health secretaries and national NHS CEOs – but I reckon the conversation I had with @Bob_Wachter on the role of AI in healthcare last week will prove the most consequential. You can listen here: lnkd.in/eEKjBiYV

Pay campaign started by DoctorsVote. Jobs campaign started by DoctorsVote. Call to prioritise UK grads started by DoctorsVote. Push for emergency legislation started by DoctorsVote. I agree, vote for the team with the track record of delivering for doctors! Doctors, vote for DoctorsVote!
Jack Fletcher@fletchjack

The pay campaign did not start at a conference. The jobs campaign did not start at a conference. The call to prioritise UK graduates for training did not start at a conference. Emergency legislation was not delivered because of a conference. We need less hot air and more people with track records of winning for doctors!

@DrBeckyl @DoctorsVoteUK Don’t be oblivious. You see the problem. Voting for DV last time just led to the same old BMA in the end.

A reminder that the BMA signed away your terms and conditions during the pandemic without your say. NHS employers took this into account by giving you another real terms pay cut. Don't let this happen again. Vote DoctorsVote. x.com/i/status/20327…

During COVID the resident doctor contract was eroded by the BMA without us having any say on the matter. If you vote for DoctorsVote reps to council our manifesto promise is to put any derogation of any contract to an online referendum. DoctorsVote x.com/i/status/20327…

@docanonx @DoctorsVoteUK They used to be. Always disappointed with that deal. We'll see what the DDRB comes out for this year pretty soon. Will see if they are more reasonable this year! Spring and summer strikes are always popular, after all...

“I graduated from my undergraduate degree last summer… and I have £90,231 of student loan debt.” Gina Tindale, 22, who went to university from a low income background, says the necessity to take out a larger maintenance loan has significantly added to her debt. #Newsnight

@BuckCllr @BBCNewsnight The government unilaterally changed the repayment thresholds and interest rate dependent upon salary. If a commercial loan company did that they’d be shut down over loan sharking. Perhaps STFU and educate yourself first?

If it was in the T&C’s, which it must have been to be legally allowable, then she agreed to it. I have empathy for her and the others, but they are learning the hard way, choices as adults are not without consequences! It is not the responsibility of tax payers to pay for adults life style choices.

@BuckCllr @BBCNewsnight It wasn’t her choice to unilaterally change the terms and conditions of the loan repayment though, was it?

@BBCNewsnight She made a personal life style choice as an adult to go to university. She must now live with the consequences of her choices she made as an adult. It is not the states responsibility to pay for her life style choices she made as an adult, its hers!

It’s psychologically horrible to have such a debt. But it doesn’t matter. She’ll never pay off her loan. She’ll pay extra 9% income tax above Plan 2 threshold, £29,385 from April, which will mean less disposable income, but after 30 years, however massive, debt will disappear.
