@DHSCgovuk @wesstreeting Wes, just provide a route to pay restoration with enough training posts and consultant posts to meet patient need and there would no longer be a dispute. It is within your power to do this. The NHS can’t be fixed without sufficient doctors. You need to act accordingly.

@DHSCgovuk @wesstreeting This is really simple to sort Wes: 1) offer a multi-year deal to pay restoration 2) expand the number of medical specialist training posts immediately by 5000 for the sake of patients 3) promise to expand medically qualified doctor consultant posts accordingly for patients’ sake

People in the UK need to wake up. This thread explains how the government is using the GMC to remove the requirement for consultant surgeons, anaesthetists, and physicians to be medically qualified. @ShaunLintern surely this should worry you and your readers?

NHS England executive Glen Burley said today that plans for 1k extra medical training places would "not be moving forward" This would be a significant development as training posts are meant to be filled from August - not mentioned by Wes Streeting in his statement earlier...

@ollieburtonmed @wesstreeting is failing to tell the UK public that he wants to reduce the NHS to nothing 7 million on the waiting list. The NHS has a dearth of doctors. The NHS needs more doctors to provide the healthcare people deserve and expect. Sadly Wes is refusing to provide for patients

I still remain somewhat mystified that doctor jobs are seen as 'something for nothing', they're just something you need if you want a sustainable pipeline of doctors for the future to look after your growing population.

Update: In the Commons earlier today, Wes Streeting said "those jobs will not materialise if the BMA rejects this deal" Says NHS trust bosses "were not convinced" about need for training posts due to concerns about the "conduct of resident doctors and the BMA"

The new GMC Order is undergoing consultation. The GMC is seeking to remove the speciality register and decide by themselves who should be issued a CCT. This right is currently protected in law. This is the last hurdle before the GMC will be able to issue CCTs to PAs.

@bristolboudicca @danielgoyal The NHS has too few doctors in all posts cf similar countries. The NHS is not training sufficient doctors to meet predicted future demand as Govt refuses to fund them (despite being perfectly able to). NHS Waiting lists and access to doctors is being actively restricted by Govt.

That framing is misleading. The relevant question is not what one idle pound buys across time, but what people’s incomes, savings, and access to goods and services buy. A pound held under a mattress may lose purchasing power, but living standards depend on real income and productive capacity, not on fetishising a fixed nominal unit.
