What people don't seem to understand is that you can’t convince me Marathon is a bad game just because it isn't a massive hit. My enjoyment of the game isn't tied to its Steam chart. Even if it were to shut down tomorrow, I’d still stand by all the praise I've given it.

Destiny has had 12 years of fragmented lore and stories, that were painted on a new canvas with new paint and concrete concepts. Destiny is DEEP. Marathon is built off a foundation of 32 years of mythology and lore that some would say is the greatest sci-fi story ever written.

Marathon is a victim of 4 things: 1.​Sony’s live service reputation. 2.​ Bungie’s D2 baggage. 3.​ Online grifters who's most played game is steamdb player charts. 4. ​The playtests were terrible. ​The game itself is genuinely one of the best shooters in a decade.

Bungie’s community manager is funny to me. Dudes entire job is to be this beacon of hope & positivity that connects to fans, hears their pleas & relays them to the team. The real fun of the game doesn’t appear unless you make progress to get full heat/movement upgrades and all the AI subroutines which can take 100-200+ hours for a normal person. On top of that there’s no true endgame besides Cryo Archive which is only available 3 days a week. I think this game will find its target player base and be bigger than it was the past month later down the line a year from now. A year from now when there’s more endgame content and becomes more “new player friendly” so they can actually play with the full upgrades and endgame themselves. So long as Sony/Bungie don’t pull the plug and keep updating the game it will be fine for an extraction shooter 🤷‍♂️
