@that_gear Peer pressure and Con rules are forcing some of the “nothing comes between me and my spandex” crowd to add a dance belt to their cosplay. Yoga enthusiasts and athletes discovering dance belts also expanded the market and manufacturers responded with new models.

@DoctorDancebelt Many of these cosplayers don't understand how a dance belt works, unfortunately. So there's a lot of misinformation. But at the same time, we've seen better dance belts because a broader audience demands a higher quality product!

Over the past 25 years, it’s been fun watching dance belts go from super-specialized secret items only worn by ballet dancers to being broadly worn by runners, skaters, cosplayers, superheroes, and guys wanting super sports support or having to wear tights.

@that_gear As for Furlan, I’m impressed by the guy’s credentials. Much like the DanceJox inventor, as a dancer he ought to be able to design a great dance belt. But no details, just a vague description of swimsuit material and one picture. I’m not normally a fan of wide waistbands.

@that_gear I’ve been hanging back, waiting for someone else to go first. It’s exciting that new models are coming into the market, but I have questions: with no guidance, how are you supposed to figure out if you’re a Keto B, C, or D size pouch? Don’t want to make a mistake at that price!

@_thebeesknees5 The only thing worse than wearing a dance belt is not wearing one. They prevent bouncy bouncy! The thought of wearing that thong is worse than the reality but they do take a bit of getting used to.

Dance belts for ballet look so uncomfortable, if I was a man I wouldn’t want to do ballet, imagine having to jump around in a thong lol

@diaper_sub True! Mid ‘70s dance belts didn’t acknowledge the presence of male bulge, using a flat piece of no-stretch fabric to go between your legs, sewn to waist band front to back. Check the pic of the Les Steinhardt brand on the vintage dance belt page of Dr. Dancebelt’s Guide.

@DoctorDancebelt supposedly Dance Belts have come a long way since the 70's. Just saying, if I had to wear one of those from back then, I would probably be complaining about it everyday.

@Tera_Monique Although there are posts all over X saying Olympic athletes in this sport or that sport should wear dance belts, they are the ones going for Gold and trying to eke every advantage out of their uniforms. It’s up to them to wear what they want, even if it’s ugly or unhealthy.

Not sure a dance belt would have saved that French pole vaulter’s attempt, but it might have meant the difference.

Dear male cosplayers and performance artists. A large part of the reason dance belts exist is to help you keep from exhibiting your shortcomings to the world. Dance belts are your friend and ours. We don't want to know how disappointed your intimate partners are.

Ballet studios that post a dress code for females but not for males perpetuate the philosophy that dance is only for girls. Male dress codes need to be specific, requiring boys to wear dance belts after their 10th or 11th birthday. (Optional but desirable before that)
