Some great moments: Reds win the 1940 WS in 7 games over the Tigers. The "Ragamuffin Reds" win the 1961 NL pennant over the favored Dodgers. So you excluded HOF manager Bill McKechnie and Fred Hutchinson, two of the 3 greatest Reds managers, the great 1940 Reds starting rotation, and F. Robinson, V. Pinson, etc.

@UnderdogMLB This list isn't complete, it doesn't include a number of teams that have 3 or more since May 7. Very sloppy work.

@jn_walkerjr The disaster was based on what happed BEFORE the play. There was a full spectrum of opinions on Cardenas' effort and whether he should have made the play. Not the point. I'll chat you.

@DoctorDudeNess Use the chat function, it is the one that looks like a speech bubble just below the notification bell on the left of my screen (browser, not app). I can verify by sight of my own eyes that Cardenas attempted to make a play on the ball behind 2b. it hit in front of and skipped by

@jn_walkerj Jim, I've been looking for you. You might recall that I told you that I had more information about the 1964 tragic loss to the Phillies from an excellent biography of Fred Hutchinson. There is no doubt that Mauch had Cardenas hit on purpose. The pitcher who threw the pitch admitted it. It was a stroke of genius by Mauch, based on his knowledge of Cardenas' temper and his belief that other Reds would not believe it was intentional, igniting him further. He just had his hands on his knees during the warmup around the horn. Hutch would have taken him out of the game. Sisler screwed up. More later when I hear from you.

@barber72_an @EvilJoeyVotto No one will ever know whether we still would have lost. And even the vilified Bartman did not officially commit fan interference. Maybe if he had an uh-oh expression on his face, I'd attribute what he did to instinct. But he was so pleased with himself, like he'd do it again.

@DoctorDudeNess @EvilJoeyVotto We still would have lost so, cut the dude some slack! It’s extremely likely he was just reacting to the ball being hit right at him. My only issue is that he brought a glove to the game and I didn’t see any kids with him. Adults please leave the gloves at home.

Cardenas' blatant pouting - refusing to patticipate in the around the horn warmup - angered O'Toole before he'd thrown a pitch. So much so that he claimed Cardenas never moved at all on the popup and still had his hands on his knees. Mauch's real genuis was that he got his revenge for what Chico f'ing Ruiz did. How can I send you a longer note ?

@DoctorDudeNess I guess I am suggesting that just because Cardenas came the closest to making the play and appeared to get a slow break doesn't mean it clearly was his ball to play. Maybe it was just a perfect storm of placement.

@jn_walkerjr @CBoxSports Yes but that was Francona's call. Saying "we'll need him later" is not a valid explanation. Pitch him in low leverage situations for now, we'll still have him later.

@DoctorDudeNess @CBoxSports My take is the same guy has been given sway over the pitching (Derek Johnson), like he was a coordinator in football, yet the same issues keep on plaguing the staff.

@Reds Santillan comes in having given up 4 HRs in his last 1 and 1.3 innings ! A highly predictable outcome. Why was Johnson used to mop up in last night's game and Santillan brought in with the game on the line tonight ?

@Reds The Astros lineup is stronger than expected right now because of two hot recent callups, Cole and Shewmake. And Cole made a great throw to nab McLain at the plate.

@Reds I breathed a big sigh of relief when Peirce Johnson came out to pitch the 9th. I thought he might not be available after pitching 1 and 2/3 innings. The other options were iffy.

Hypothetical: You’re the owner of an MLB team. I offer to take $0 salary and sign a minor league contract and go to Low A. If the “he sucks now” crowd is right and I get lit up, you cut me, lose $0 and there’s no risk to the big league club. If the “clubhouse cancer” crowd is right, you see it immediately at Low A and cut me. You lose $0 and there’s no risk to the big league club. If there’s massive negative PR, which we already know there won’t be, you just cut me and move on. The story is dead in a couple days, you lose $0, and there’s no risk to the big league club. But, assuming none of those things happen, which they obviously wouldn’t, if you like what you see, you can promote me to AA and re evaluate me there. Then AAA. Then the big leagues. If I earn it, which you’d be 100% in control of deciding. If you don’t think I’m good enough, you lose $0 and there’s no risk to the big league club. You could take away my “antics”. You could take away my social media. You could ask anything of me. If I don’t comply, you cut me, lose $0, and there’s no risk to the big league club. What logical reason is there to not do this? At worst, you cut me and there’s no risk to the big league club. At best, you get a Cy Young winner for $0 who you know can still pitch and could help the big league team if and when you see fit.
