Headlines are the most read part of an news article. I studied news stories about a scientific journal article
ZERO headlines correctly stated what the new finding in the journal article was.

#incentives
In the early 1900s, Germany would sometimes pay scientists *by the page* of text produced. The consequences were exactly what you would expect

I think the plaintiffs have an uphill struggle to make their case.

An antitrust lawsuit was filed against 6 largest publishers. 3 reasons: no compensation for peer review; no competition between publishers due to single submission rule, and restrictions on sharing the research&publishers' property rights over manuscripts. lieffcabraser.com/antitrust/acad…

Things I loved in Space: 1999
The Eagles. My favourite spaceship.
The theme music (both seasons!).
Ep. 8, “Dragon’s Domain.”
Catherine Schell.
“This episode” teaser (stolen years later by the Battlestar Galactica reboot).
Fun stuff in an often clunky show.

Well, this is just peachy. Companies are posting jobs they have no intention of filling just to pressure their existing employees.

Making a lasting mark: Some journals have article that just keep getting cited for years or decades.
But that average longevity of article citations in a journal doesn't bear much relationship to journal's Impact Factor.

@J33P4 @ctmurphy1 @jdpereira There’s no guarantee an editor faced with an unsolved authorship dispute would accept a “correction” instead of retracting the paper (of which there are definitely examples).
English

@ctmurphy1 @jdpereira Remove them from authorship. Add and thank them for their specific contributions in the Acknowledgements. Let them know you intend to do this and the reasons (hold up at submission). If it gets published, and they contest, you can offer a correction. Not ideal but its blackmail.
English

@SvobodaLab @ctmurphy1 @jdpereira In researching author disputes, I was unable to find clear cases where institutions arbitrated authorship disputes: doi.org/10.1186/s41073…
English

@ctmurphy1 @jdpereira I've seen lately a similar situation - if a contract said that ownership of their results belongs to the institute, one way is to offer a mediation with the head/director and based on their view then offer a choice between decided author position, acknowledgement or nothing.
English

@jdpereira @ctmurphy1 In researching a paper on authorship disputes, the overwhelming impression is that editors do NOT want to be involved in disputes and will throw it back to authors to work it out.
(Situations like this are one reason I wrote the paper.)
doi.org/10.1186/s41073…
English

@ctmurphy1 Can you talk to the editors?
Maybe withdraw, correct outside the system and re-send to the editor?
This has to be a thing.
It absolutely is blackmail, and I would be petty about it - it feels like the kind of situation their current employer should know about.
