Manchester United will not be "back" until they sort the back out. Their attacking is undeniably better, and more exciting, and they have invested well in Mbeumo and Cunha (can't judge Sesko yet), but 26 Premier League goals conceded (worst of top 12) drags them back... #MUFC 1/2

@endahiggins88 It’s not necessarily that he’s bad, though I also think he is quite bad, it’s that he commits the much bigger crime of being really, really stupid all the time. When Ugarte shanked that shot against Arsenal in GW1, I thought “I’ve seen Dalot do that once a week for half a decade”

@WayneSBarton It’s also annoying how - because he’s had some early success - he’s expected to be the finished article NOW. Keano was 22 still raw when he joined in 1993, Scholes’ first 30 game season was when he was 23. Rodri didn’t even join City until he was 23! Kobbie was only 20 in August!

Grown to despise this way of thinking.
Some think they’re the arbiters of standards, as if their criticism is a rite of passage that a young player has to withstand if they’re to prove themselves.

@tonjomes1 @Casey_Evans_ Agree - I’m also not convinced that any of the others except Blind (who had other weaknesses but was versatile to be fair) were even that much better on the ball than him, certainly not enough to make up the difference in pure defending ability.

Chris Smalling was one of the best CBs in the Serie A when he moved to Roma, it's a different league with different parameters, my point still stands that for United that was what he was

@ManUnitedYouth Agreed. He’s either signed, promoted or willfully and meaningfully extended the contracts of every player in the squad with the exceptions of Maguire, Lindelof and Sancho right? Some stopgaps (Evans, Eriksen?) but only Pep has picked all 25/25 at this point

What is clear is this - EtH has been emphatically backed and this is without question *his* squad now. Progress must be seen, there is no room for excuses, and anyone coming out with the ‘same old players failing another manager 😡’ bollocks is not a serious person

I think Ugarte might prove to be a bit of a cult hero but also not the saviour some would expect or hope him to be. Unless something else changes with our setup he’s still going to have his moments of chasing shadows in midfield, even as a big upgrade on Casemiro athletically
