This is Moira. She is 70 in August but still works around 60 hours a week as a GP in an economically deprived area. She has had approximately 2 days off sick in 40 years. She lost her husband in 2016 and took 10 days off then tbf. I’m not sorry for inheriting her stiff upper-lip.

I like Matheus Fernandes a lot but a summer of him, Baleba and Ederson would be unbelievably disappointing. Can’t imagine Pedri, Vitinha and Bellingham will be quaking in their boots. Or Enzo and Caicedo for that matter.

Howard Webb says the decision to disallow West Ham's late equaliser against Arsenal was "categorically" correct. VAR audio shows the team considered other possible fouls and showed these to the referee at the monitor. Includes full VAR transcript. 👇 bbc.co.uk/sport/football…

@ConnorF1878 @Muppetiers suggesting it could be these two and Baleba…my initial assessment of that business would be ‘horrendous’.

Hmmm if these are 1 & 2 signings no bueno…if they’re 2 & 3 then I’m ok with that—Anderson as the #1 Doesn’t leave you with a natural “DM” but I don’t think Carrick needs that either Anderson/Ederson the pressers and Mainoo/Fernandes the controllers

#ManchesterUnited have been stepping up interest in #Atalanta’s Ederson and #WestHam’s Mateus Fernandes as they position themselves to make offers in the central midfield market this summer. More on @SkySportsNews soon. Full story ➡️ skysports.com/transfer-centre #MUFC

@PaddyKeoghAF @Jon_David84 Great read. The massive worry for me is the levels of the players mentioned. I think Anderson & Tchouameni are top class. All the others are really good players…but none are giving Europe’s finest sleepless nights. Replacing Casemiro with two decent players could be a disaster.

@Muppetiers It’s also a shame when people carefully select information and interpret facts to peddle their own agendas, and/or that of their sources, instead of analysing things in a balanced and honest way.

Its a shame there's still so many people stuck on trying to make everything an x vs y camp agenda instead of understanding the questions Spencer is laying out here, which are interesting ones for the future, likely under Carrick.
Spencer Mossman@fc_mossman

Some observations about Manchester United's underlying data this season under Ruben Amorim and under Michael Carrick: - Amorim's United were better by almost every measure except results - its known Amorim had a better xG differential, but there's a response I'm seeing that his xG is inflated by trailing game states, which is incorrect; in neutral scorelines (the match is tied), Amorim and Carrick have nearly the same xG differential per match... Carrick's Utd are producing more xG, while Amorim's were conceding less - even non-xG or xT events like high turnovers forced/conceded and deep entries forced/conceded all favor Amorim's Utd If through the traditional data analysis lens Amorim's Utd looks better, the question flow becomes: Do I care about the underlying data? - If no, thanks for reading this far, my account and this post probably aren't for you, feel free to quote this calling me a nerd or leave a reply like "I ain't reading all that"... it helps with the algorithm :) Are there other data angles where Carrick's United does look better than Amorim's, and if so, are they also reasons why other successful teams are successful? - Still here? Awesome. If there are alternative angles I'm not considering, I'd love to think through them. That said, if they need to be scalable to other situations, otherwise it doesn't really matter if they're driving United's current results, because like the goals to xG differential, its not sustainable. Are there non-data reasons for the results disparity? - Absolutely, and it would be stupid to not consider these. Carrick clearly has a management style that better suits the club and the squad mentality, among other things. The confidence of the players/general vibe of the club could very well be the difference between the quality of result. I don't believe this to be true, but I would not rule it out, or at least it being one of several contributing factors. But if you believe this to be the case, you need to then think through: Will the good vibes last forever? - Eventually something has to give - either the underlying data catches up to the on-pitch results, or the on-pitch results drop to meet the data. Feel free to think through which is more likely, and how that will impact the vibes. Perhaps this is as simple as Amorim was the manager United needed to right the ship, and now Carrick is the manager United needs to maximize results. There are arguments for and against United sacking Amorim, as well as making Carrick's appointment permanent - I'm not here to persuade you one way or the other, what you choose to do with the facts I've presented and the other facts you've digested + your relationship with your emotions is your business. Thanks for reading!

@Muppetiers A lot of *good* options...but not many *top* ones. We know there’ll be more games, a need to rotate etc, but I think we’re all hoping Kobbie’s partner in our best XI is going to be of the highest class. On this long list, I only see Tchouameni and Anderson in that category.

Will add more to this or do a separate thread for other positions in the next few days. Lists don't include every player United have looked at, but what I presently believe to make up the "shorter" list for these positions. Additionally contacts expected in the coming days and weeks with these players.

With Champions League secured, time for a thread on this years summer targets. Did this in May last year, as well as later in June. Most all of this has been discussed on video but it makes for a useful reference to return to. All based on reliable info of others and my own. 👇

@Muppetiers 2 months ago - “We have to do absolutely everything we can to get Elliot Anderson. He’s the perfect option.” Now - “It’s cool if we don’t pay whatever it takes. Our wage structure is important.” Why not just say, “Yeh guys he’s definitely going to City now. It sucks.” ?

@andydunnmirror Get a sense a deal to City has advanced in the last 10 days. Some of their more reliable fan accounts suggested it was a done deal in November, which I think was premature, but I’m a lot less confident now. Noises coming out of United have shifted in tone too.

@htomufc Still have nightmares about that Villareal game. “Go out there, express yourselves and don’t let the club, the fans or yourselves down.” translated into Lindelof and Bailly passing the ball back and forth to each other repeatedly. I’m being slightly disingenuous, I know.

@htomufc This approach has a ceiling. The comparisons are a bit tiresome, so forgive this one…but we saw where that ceiling was under Ole.

From everything I’ve heard from the players, Carrick strikes me as a Carlo type of manger, someone who’s willing to let the players play with simple key details within his messaging. Question is, how far with that level get us/any team in the long run? I will say though, it’s the type of management a team like United has needed, someone who’s not emotionally reactive to every move and decision, he’s steady & calm. So similar to him as a player. There are questions about his style that I’ll 100% debate about but he empowers & galvanises a lot of players with calmness. Can be good & bad in moments don’t get me wrong.

@_callumstone I should also say I don’t mind listening to him. Knows his stuff…it’s just a bit reminiscent of some of the journalists who tore into Ole, Martial and Shaw…and by a crazy coincidence had sources in Jose’s agency…

@_callumstone Been trying for a while to connect some dots. James has shown a major bias towards Amorim and Ugarte in the recent past, as well as being brutally critical of the Casemiro-Bruno midfield pairing under Amorim. He’s also super reliable…can’t work out who his source might be!

Casemiro was super expensive. But the impact he’s making on the way out is absolutely huge. Considering everything about the deal, the expense and the difficulties in the middle, can we actually look back on this now as a successful signing?

@JamieJackson___ The issue with this being that few managers get the boot with things in a ‘good’ place. Maybe in 27/28 the target needs to be very ambitious, and if he falls short…

@JamieJackson___ It’s a fine question. To stabilise…to oversee the next stage of the squad rebuild, to finish in the CL spots again, get to the CL KO stages…& in a year or two leave with things in a good place for the next guy, who could take us over the line. I don’t believe Carrick can.
