We need to abolish the Department of Education. English literature majors — the people who will become teachers — are going to college without having ever read a book because they "don't know how" and were never expected to because of "critical literacy", which is essentially critical theory applied to reading which teaches kids to basically invent their own meaning based on their feelings when reading a text instead of understanding what the author actually meant.
