Okay, so now I'm starting to do Spanish taxes, and something interesting caught my eye. I have to fill something up called Modelo 720, which is a declaraction of all assets I own overseas if worth €50k or more. This includes real estate, businesses, equity, brokerage, crypto, 401ks, IRAs, etc. Apparently it's for "informational" purposes only, and it won't be taxed. I'm extremely skeptical about this, because all it takes is just flipping 1 switch legislatively, and then a wealth tax suddenly applies. My question is, for you guys who are tax resident overseas, do you bother declaring this stuff? 🤔 I'm saying, it's like tattoing all over your forehead: "Hey taxman, taxman, look over here! Look how much money I have! I know you said you won't tax me, so I'm just showing you my bank account balance in good faith. I trust you. You're such a nice guy! Have a great day!"
