@DakotaPick56497 @reddit_lies He's free to judge them as he sees fit. His parents are engaged in an abnormal relationship and he finds it abhorrant. It's a perfectly natural reaction to the situation and he's free to chose to not want to have a relationship with them for any reason.

@reddit_lies Dudes who have never been able to get pussy are furious over this I bet. A teenager had to learn about the real world not being a playground? Interesting how he blames his mother but not this father. The sex lives of adults is not subject to the understanding of a teenager.

@reddit_lies Parents are free to do what they want and the kid can learn to harden up and deal with the fact that sometimes life can be uncomfortable. It's 2 adults in the their bedroom. She should of been a little more careful asking him to use the PC but he needs to get over it.

@DogLoud @camharless @BobMurphyEcon read the image next time also its literally every human so no everyone cannot just press red theres colourblind people and babies who will pick red or blue by accident. once again if your solution is "everyone just" then your solution wont work

@camharless @BobMurphyEcon the example is terrible because it doesnt taken into account that its everyone and is choosing blue at the last minute not to mention not everyone is gonna pick red by picking red your esentially killing the blue pushers

@CarpeSapientiam @camharless @BobMurphyEcon The original poster of the question said in a response to someone that they would be included, but I agree that in the sense of this thought experiment, you would generally assume everyone is making an informed decisions unless otherwise stated.

I think while it is not explicitly stated in the original post this thought experiment must rationally be limited to people with the physical ability and ability to make an informed choice. A person in a coma for example could not physically make the choice neither could a newborn infant, so rationally there must be exclusions. If for instance, very young children who could not make an informed choice were explicitly included my answer would go from hard red to hard blue.

@4ri4n85 @LumLotus Assuming people can enter into the scenario uninformed changes a lot We're already dealing with a magical hypothetical, it would stand to reason that everyone making the choice would likely be able to understand what choice they make

Empathy was never a part of it until someone asked if children, disabled, and people unable to understand the question was involved. A good portion didn't even see that because it wasn't part of the original test.
17thStatesman@17thStatesman

@LumLotus A disturbing number of people are failing this very, very basic test of empathy...

@LumLotus Yeah. Generally in these sorts of hypotheticals you assume the people pressing the button have the ability to understand their choice.

@DogLoud @sugarbets_ @supergeekmike @IsNotBlank Okay, let's suppose that these people are excluded from the vote. The question says red victory kills everyone besides red, so they die anyways. Actually, now they're guaranteed dead instead of a coin flip, so twice as many babies die if red wins

Notice that blue people just elaborate on the original premise to reveal just how many people would press blue, extrapolating the obvious consequences for others, for the world, etc. And red people keep changing the question to completely different, dumber scenarios.

A train is coming down a track. Everyone on Earth has the choice to either tie themselves to the track, or not. If more than 50% of people choose to tie themselves to the track, the train turns around and doesn't run them over. Yes or no - do you tie yourself to the track?

@sugarbets_ @supergeekmike @IsNotBlank No I did think about it. But typically these sort of questions presume that the people who are answering them are making informed decisions. If the quest was viewed from the perspective that everyone pushing it knows what they're doing, would you change your answer?

@supergeekmike @IsNotBlank How would that work for people in comas? Would they just be sitting in the room unable to make any choice? Would it never go through? Would it default to red or blue?

@DogLoud @IsNotBlank It was in his replies, I found a screenshot of it yesterday, but I did not save it, I can’t find it now, but others have repeated the same. Again, since the prompt is “everyone on earth,” that’s the inevitable consequence. That’s what makes it an interesting question.

“If you press red you always survive so only stupid people would pick blue” probably goes hard as an argument if you’re 15 and fail to take into account what even a 10-20% loss of population would do to the world + all the children you'd lose.
MrBeast@MrBeast

Everyone on earth takes a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press? BE HONEST.

@supergeekmike @IsNotBlank Well, that changes the consideration of the question then. I still stand by my original answer for the original question. With this fraiming. I may chose blue, Im not sure. Though it also means blue probably would have lost a few of these polls where it's winning by less than 10%

@supergeekmike @IsNotBlank Did they? That changes the question and must have been posted separately form his initial response. That adds a. Random coin flip element to everything and would completely change the logic here

@DogLoud @IsNotBlank The author of the original post specifically said that’s not the case, but yeah, if you want to live in the fantasy within this fantasy, where everyone who gets hurt by voting red deserves it, then that’s your answer.

@supergeekmike @IsNotBlank Incorrect sir. Since the question is already using magical logic. (Everyone being taken to make a choice and many people dropping dead) It's safe to assume that everyone who must make this choice has the ability to comprehend the decision they make. Otherwise it doesn't work

@DogLoud @IsNotBlank That explains your answer, then. Of course, the author of the original post DID say it included *everyone*, and confirmed in other replies that this includes babies, so in this prompt, some votes ARE a coin flip. That’s why blue is the better answer.
