@theDRAMAgoat1 Well what I’m accustomed to, is they might sign up at back-to-school night, but there’s a chance some of them will be at least two hours late or won’t schedule a conference at all. Not sure what to say.

I've got Parent Teacher Conferences coming up Thursday and I'm not nervous about meeting parents but it's all parents of kids who have a high A and don't cause an issue in class. How do I fill 10 minutes?

@poptrtsrravioli @JayWamsted That is also the truth. Every year the expectations, get higher, and the social skills that most of the children come in with are lower. I know I’m not supposed to use the word lower.

@DogMomTeach @JayWamsted Universal Pre-K would be helpful but not ultimately solve the problem of expectations vs. developmental feasibility.

Since we’re talking about the dangers of stuffing college level work on high school students? I’m here to say that we’ve now jammed too much high school work down into the middle school Most of them aren’t ready. All it does is turn them off from school at a sensitive time

Heartbroken 💔 as some of you know I am away on holiday with my partner Graham - yesterday he died aged 56 no illness no warning… Life has stood still since a blur of phone calls. I’m being well looked after by the travel company just awaiting coroners report to bring him home

@poptrtsrravioli @JayWamsted I think that’s because they also turned Kindergarten into PreK under the premise/expectation that all children would get to go to PreK. Which they don’t. You have to know about, apply, and then qualify by income to even be considered for PreK in my county.

@JayWamsted If we're being honest "we" made Kindergarten into 1st grade then all the grades moved up and kids don't have a chance to be kids. 😩

@MarcusLuther6 This is so true. Public education is a non-profit industry that is pecked at and stripped away by for-profit vultures. It makes me sick.

@Corrie_EdTech @sage_stage Amen! The worst days are when there are no paper towels, toilet paper or soap in the few adult bathrooms that exist. We’ve taken to posting signs on the bathroom door in case someone from building services is working @ night. So many germs, so little soap, paper towels. & time.

The district can't even figure put how to get us white paper every once and a while but I'm expected to be able to figure out how to do 12 hours worth of work in a 7 hour day.

@sage_stage I’m right there with you. In my case and perhaps others, you’ve worked longer, harder, and smarter for so many years, that your body and mind just can’t keep doing it. The other people who should’ve stepped in and done same long ago should step in now. And the newbies doing same.

Ended up putting in a little more than a full days work (unpaid) between the end of work Friday and Sunday night. I know some people do a lot more, and a lot more frequently, but it is definitely making it harder to get up and get out the door this Monday morning.

@sage_stage You are not the only teacher to tell me that today! Your body just takes over to continue to help children, in my opinion.

Legitimately forgot to eat lunch today. Not sure how I managed that.

Side hustle Sunday- Things you are doing that annoy your uber driver- Not being ready for pickup. You are the one who called for an uber, it gives you a time estimate before you confirm, and then you can see me coming in the app after we are confirmed.

@theDRAMAgoat1 Today at a staff meeting the principal announced that she’d recently been made aware that teachers were trying to “make” students say the Pledge. They were admonished, and informed you were not allowed to do that. Nothing was said about an invitation to stand.

I feel like poking the troll nest. None of my students say the pledge of allegiance even though it's said on the intercom everyday. They do sit silently allow those who want to participate to do so. They don't have to say it. West Virginia vs. Barnette (1943) #CivicsEducation

@DogMomTeach Let's just say central time zone, most of my classes are in person, but I also teach in our virtual program, which we teach from the building.

@sage_stage Are you teaching virtually or in person? Are you in the DC region?

@DogMomTeach Yep, I was supposed to be teaching my online class from the bullpen, but I made a run for it. Don't think I will do that every day, but totally worth it this one time.

A few kids gathered by the door before our final class ended. Two of em eventually bolted a minute or two before the bell rang. "Uh oh Mr Sage, I guess they have detention now" a student said. "Not exactly, this time they get a warning, then a phone call home, then detention"

@tbeaman95 @sage_stage That is so true, especially in elementary school.

Little Sage: My school has a 24 minute long lunch period. Teachers after lunch always complain that we should have gone to the bathroom during lunch, but then WHEN AM I SUPPOSED TO FINISH MY LUNCH!?
