This interesting paper uses ideas on statistical equilibrium to study firm size distributions via a model in which firms engage in satisficing behavior. Statistical equilibrium models as formulated by Duncan Foley represent a road less travelled in economics. This paper demonstrates how they can be used and empirically evaluated. Recommended.

Why is industrial policy only trending in Indonesia recently?
In fact, such policy has been practiced for decades in Asia - but sidelined by Western-centered, neoliberal mainstream.
Only *after* the West began embracing industrial policy with a vengeance has it started trending in the very region that has the most experience doing it.
Might this be the intellectual equivalent of embracing local food only after foreigners give it a thumbs up?

But it has now re-emerged as a central pillar of economic strategy across the world. Industrial Policy Lab Indonesia was established in response to this changing global landscape. We seek to help shape a coherent industrial policy agenda that can rebuild domestic productive capabilities, generate quality employment, and place Indonesia on a stronger path of structural transformation.

Bu çalışmanın yayınlanmasının dört yıllık bir tarihi var (Az önce bu mecrada denk geldiğim sosyal ve beşeri bilimciler ne yapar sorusuna da yanıt olsun.)
Aynı konuda daha geniş bir ekip olarak sürdürdüğümüz kapsamlı bir araştırma (ABD, Sovyet ve Türkiye arşivlerinde) sürüyor.
Bu araştırmanın, Türkiye'nin Soğuk Savaş tarihine ve sanayi tarihine katkı yapmasını amaçlıyoruz.

BREAKING 🚨🚨 In a landmark settlement, Amazon has conceded it will no longer retaliate against workers who exercise their right to strike, following relentless pressure from the Teamsters Union in sessions mediated by the National Labor Relations Board. Historically, Amazon deducted Unpaid Time (UPT) from those who strike in direct retaliation against workers exercising their rights. Last year, the NLRB ruled that Amazon had illegally taken striking workers’ UPT, which exists as a bank of hours that Amazon workers can use for unscheduled leave and emergencies. "As Amazon Teamsters, we are the only ones who have ever successfully forced this company to respect the right to strike," said Robert Moore, a warehouse worker at DCK6 in San Francisco. "Amazon workers everywhere should know that thanks to this settlement, they too can become Teamsters without losing their Unpaid Time. It’s time to get organizing and secure even stronger rights on the job." Amazon’s settlement with the Teamsters will now restore the illegally deducted time to affected workers and ensure all Amazon workers can strike in the future without losing their UPT. The settlement will cover all of Amazon’s 1,300 facilities nationwide, and Amazon is required to post a notice to workers informing them of their rights.

Bilkent Üniversitesi UNAM İcra Kurulu Başkanı’nın (Hilmi Volkan Demir) aldığı bir karar sonucunda görevime yılbaşında keyfi olarak son verildi.
Beyfendinin, tüm zamanını ayırmayı dahi gerek duymadığı Bilkent Üniversitesi UNAM, kamu kaynaklarıyla desteklenen ve ülkemizin stratejik teknoloji alanlarında somut çıktı üretmesi beklenen bir araştırma merkezidir.
Bu tür kurumların kişisel ego tatminiyle değil, kurumsal akıl ve bilimsel öncelikler doğrultusunda yönetilmesi gerektiğine inanıyorum.
Tüm hukuki haklarımı aramak için gerekli süreçleri işlettim, işletiyorum. Kıdem tazminatı yanısıra, İşe iade davasını da kazandım, ancak tazminatla bu süreci sonlandırdım.
Yaşanan sürecin sonunda ortaya çıkan tablo ne yazık ki düşündürücüdür:
• Türkiye’nin ilk sentetik biyoloji araştırma grubunun faaliyetleri kesintiye uğradı
• Biyoteknolojik ilaçlar ve sürdürülebilirlik için sentetik biyoloji alanındaki yenilikçi projeler sekteye uğradı
• Kamu ve özel fonlarla kurulan laboratuvar altyapımız geçici olarak işlevsiz hale geldi
Bu süreçte hedefin araştırma ekibimizi dağıtmak ve yurtdışına yönlendirmek olduğu izlenimi oluşsa da çalışmalarımıza Türkiye’de devam etme kararlılığımız sürmektedir.
Nitekim Bilkent Üniversitesi UNAM bünyesindeki baş araştırmacı hoca arkadaşımız da ABD’ye geri döndü; başka ayrılıkların da gündemde olduğu görülüyor. Bu durum, yıllar içinde oluşturulan araştırmacı insan kaynağı ve araştırma kapasitesi açısından ayrıca değerlendirilmesi gereken bir konudur.
Dileğim; ülkemizin ileri teknoloji üretimi için kurulmuş ve kamu yatırımlarıyla desteklenen bu tür araştırma merkezlerinin güçlü bir kurumsal kimlik ve sürdürülebilir bilim politikaları çerçevesinde yönetilmesidir.
Son olarak dinlenmemek üzere yola çıkan birisi olarak, sadece yurt ve dünya için iyi araştırma yapmakla kalmayıp, bilim ve akademideki bu tür haksızlıklarla da sonuna kadar savaşacağım!

Daha önce Türkiye’nin en büyük 500 şirketinin değişken kâr oranlarını incelemiştik, şimdi de aynı firmaların emek üretkenliği büyüme oranlarını ele alıyoruz. Yaygın kanının aksine rekabet tam da beklendiği şekilde işliyor, ancak arzu edilen sonuçları yaratmıyor.
