So you’re trying to ask me why the fuck you should care about a holiday that celebrates the lives and deaths of your ancestors? And the fact that an elder Black man — somebody who’s supposed to be speaking wisdom and perspective to younger generations — has this kind of mindset is honestly fucking sick to me. You’re talking about people who are dead and gone underneath this earth, who gave the only life they were ever gonna get on this planet so their offspring — children and grandchildren they would never even live long enough to see — could one day sit safely in the warmth of their home and communicate freely on a social media platform owned by a white billionaire that 300 years ago could’ve had their fucking head blown off just for having the ability to read. That’s what you’re asking me? You’re able to sit here today and articulate your opinions freely because people way stronger than you and way braver than you decided that their life and suffering was worth sacrificing if it meant future generations of Black people could stand upright as human beings instead of property. What if THEY had your mindset back then? What if they said, “Why the fuck should I die for the seed of a plant I’ll never see grow?” Then your ass wouldn’t even be here right now living the life you live, speaking the language you speak, enjoying the freedoms you enjoy. Period. Juneteenth exists because people suffered, bled, died, got whipped, got lynched, got separated from their families, and STILL kept pushing because they believed their bloodline deserved better even if they themselves never got to experience it. So yeah, I think it matters. And then you jump to this “Democrats keep us dependent on the system” shit, and honestly, what the fuck are you even talking about? Both political parties are corrupt as hell. Both parties steal from taxpayers. Both parties are filled with politicians getting rich while regular people struggle. Let’s stop pretending one side is pure. But at least one side is willing to put SOME of that money back into systems the average person can actually benefit from when life goes sideways. Nobody puts a gun to your head and forces you to apply for food stamps. Nobody forces you onto welfare. Nobody forces you to take assistance. You make your own decisions in life. But the fact that a safety net exists if life knocks your ass down is something people should be thankful for, not mocking. A seatbelt doesn’t stop you from driving the car. It stops your ass from flying through the fucking windshield if something bad happens. An airbag isn’t there because people plan to crash. It’s there in case they do. A life raft on a boat isn’t there because people WANT to jump overboard. It’s there so if they fall into the water, they don’t drown. That’s what social programs are supposed to be. A fallback. A lifeline. A cushion when life goes sideways. Meanwhile the other side will happily take your tax dollars too, rob your ass blind the same exact way, and then look you dead in the face and say, “Fuck you. Pull yourself up by the bootstraps and figure it out yourself.” That’s not strength. That’s not wisdom. And it damn sure isn’t compassion.
