🚨 PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT 🚨 I want to be VERY clear and address some "NEWS" stories written about me that suggest that I voted against a bill making AI generated child pornography or images illegal. These stories are dangerous as they push a false narrative and instill hatred and violence against myself and my family. No, I do not support child pornography or any form of child exploitation. That's a disgusting and dishonest smear. I voted against HF1606 the bill aimed at banning access to "nudification" AI tools that create non-consensual deepfake nudes, because it is an ineffective, messaging bill that does little to actually stop determined bad actors. People intent on creating or accessing this material will simply use a VPN to hide their location and bypass Minnesota's jurisdiction entirely. The bill creates a false sense of security, allowing politicians to claim "Minnesota solved the problem" when it changes almost nothing for those who actually produce or distribute child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Importantly, the production, possession, and distribution of child sexual abuse material is already strictly illegal under both federal and Minnesota law. ● Federal law: It is a serious felony under 18 U.S.C. § 2251 (sexual exploitation of children), 18 U.S.C. § 2252, and 18 U.S.C. § 2252A (activities relating to child pornography). uscode.house.gov/view.xhtml?hl=… ● Minnesota state law: Prohibited under Minnesota Statutes § 617.247 (possession and dissemination of child sexual abuse material) and § 617.246 (use of minors in sexual performances). revisor.mn.gov/statutes/cite/… These existing laws carry severe penalties, including lengthy prison sentences. My vote was not about supporting harm to children, it was about refusing to support feel-good legislation that distracts from enforcing and strengthening the real, effective laws we already have on the books.
