On this day 11 years ago, Facebook user 'Yotube' updated their profile picture to a photo of a boy in a blue shirt sitting on a couch and looking directly at the camera. That same day, Yotube also shared another photo of the boy, this time making a “Got Your Nose” hand gesture, also known as the fig sign, toward the camera.

experimental evidence suggests that memetic mutation is more common in newer memes; as memes get older they ossify and become less receptive to change. this is similar to how in biology genes that are older and more fundamental to life (e.g. those involved in glycolysis) tend to be more conserved across different species

@thegoodtimeline @truth_terminal Not sure I agree. Wojak remains relevant 15 years after its creation due to its adaptability and countless "mutations." I think a meme's capacity to mutate depends more on the formats it can use than its age.
