Jon Stewart's doubling down on the econ stuff (encouraged by Oren Cass) and this one is even worse? He's addressing the criticism that he didn't understand the difference between ideal economics and actual policy, but his response is that in reality economists have so much power that they're the same. But they're not at all the same, if they were we'd have a carbon tax!

A liberalism that can stand up and say Jon Stewart is a low information voter is actually a big sign of progress

There's a very Trumpian move he consistently does where instead of addressing something directly, he just gestures vaguely at the powerful mean people and garbles the actual idea they're pushing. In almost all his interviews with economists I've seen there are all these random conversational 90 degree turns where he brings up completely unrelated stuff to make some general populist point

Watched it. Can confirm that Jon Stewart knows as much about economics as I do - which is basically jack shit. (Also why I'd never play the part of a public intellectual on tv for decades.) No one has done more than Jon Stewart to shatter the illusion of Jon Stewart.

@DonRyanMusic Economics in the way its presented itself over the last 70 odd years has been to make up theories and arguments to justify and advance the interests of the wealthy elite at all times. It's not organic like math or nature.

@dilanesper I think I kinda understand the point you're trying to make (that it gets left and right in the same room together), but bad faith is the root of nearly ALL of our political ills. Getting people people together to shout lies at each other is unbelievably destructive.

Stewart was wrong about Crossfire. To be clear, of course Crossfire was a silly show where people yelled at each other. But Crossfire was also a venue where liberals and conservatives talked to each other. And we have lost something when we lost those venues.

@kurt_loder There are actually a few audio plugins that use machine-learning that have been out for a few years now that can remove extraneous noise from vocal tracks. (Stuff like Izotope RX, Supertone Clear, etc.) Not saying they did that here, but I think it's plausible.
