🇬🇧 A new sculpture by street artist Banksy – popularly titled "Blind Nationalism" – was installed overnight on a vacant plinth in Waterloo Place, just off Pall Mall in central London. Placed in a district defined by grand monuments to British military and royal history, the piece likely serves as a satirical commentary on the politics of tribalism. Follow: @europa

Taoiseach Micheál Martin confirms he believes that children can be transgender, but says he doesn't want to be drawn into "culture wars like they have in the UK": Gript - "Do you believe that a child can be transgender?" Taoiseach Micheál Martin - "Yes - I do believe [that]."

Why is white guilt so strong? Because it touches European archetypes, uses Christian motifs, and has become an inverted universalism, a civil religion of national identity. White guilt has the same function as a religion: it serves as a moral baseline, a common value system that creates alignment, national rituals, etc. The myth was turned into a stabilizing framework for our society. If you attack it, people see this as a danger to social order itself, whether they believe in the guilt cult or not. For the small religious elite of white guilt, who teach and preach in universities, schools, media, etc., it gives a strong sense of identity. Guilt is a strong anchor for identity. In a postmodern, chaotic time, having a clear role and a simple metanarrative that gives meaning to your life is key. White guilt is a simple explainer that helps make sense of the information chaos. There is a clear narrative with a fixed role for you: that of the penitent villain. Not the best role, but a role. This identity creates "guilt pride", a secret pride in a new, twisted form of "white supremacy" and chosenness. Not our religion, culture, or race is superior and unique, but our guilt. Everything bad in the world is our guilt, the deeds of our ancestors, and our omission in making things right and repaying their debt. This gives a strong sense of belonging, especially when it is not you and your class who are suffering from immigration, reparation payments, and other forms of penance. White guilt is therefore not altruistic. It robs all other peoples of their agency and treats them like infants. The only way to overcome white guilt is a new idea, a new goal, and a new narrative. Not just reacting to and refuting the narrative of white guilt, but understanding why it is so powerful. We need a replacement as a moral foundation, a sense of belonging, a national identity, and a supranational mission and task. Not as the superior elect, not as the eternally guilty but as Europeans with an identity and a future worth fighting for. Without this mental and spiritual update, we won’t make it.

Everyone's talking about Moloch. @Liv_Boeree argues we should be just as concerned about Norma.
Jim Rutt@jim_rutt

I talked with @Liv_Boeree—science communicator, former professional poker player, and host of the Win-Win Podcast—about how she sees the world. We discussed the nature of personal identity across sleep, the teleportation machine thought experiment, consciousness as a self-aware story-threading entity, the "attention as cursor of consciousness" framing, Jim's memory-competition theory of attention, Gerald Edelman and Daniel Dennett as proponents of competitive models, the Telepathy Tapes podcast and nonverbal autistic children, Donald Hoffman's view that consciousness is foundational, panpsychism and the "radio tuner" model, Liv's poker premonition story and a $1,700,000 tournament win, two flavors of consciousness and psychedelics as a way of dialing into different frequencies, poker as spanning pure luck to pure skill, the data revolution in poker and the rise of game-theory robots, poker as an egregore and the idea that "the game is playing me," probability at micro vs. macro scales, egregores defined as beings in meme space, Moloch as the personification of multipolar traps, Instagram face filters as a micro Moloch example, the Moloch mechanism of individually rational but collectively destructive action, Scott Alexander's "Meditations on Moloch," the breakfast cereal Moloch as a case study, the three interlocked layers of the AI multipolar trap, Marc Andreessen's techno-accelerationism and its blind spots, introducing "Norma" as the second negative attractor state representing centralization and authoritarianism, Moloch and Norma feeding into each other, psychopaths as first movers in Molochian races, the obligate psychopath concept, Elinor Ostrom's work on managing the commons, zero-knowledge proofs as a win-win third path, Descartes' philosophical origin of Western indifference to animal suffering, expanding the moral circle, the conditions of factory-farmed pigs and the economics of gestation crates, the health and environmental consequences of factory farming, cultivated meat as the win-win solution, and much more.

Here it is UK justice system, they let them go. Two Pakistani brothers used a high level of violence as they brutally attacked armed police officers in Manchester Airport brawl, court hears. Mohammed Fahir Amaaz, 21, and his elder brother Muhammad Amaad, 26, rained 'repeated blows' on PC Zachary Marsden as he tried to arrest Amaaz in the parking payment area at Terminal Two in Manchester airport. Amaaz also acted 'in a COWARDLY manner' when he struck unarmed female officer PC Lydia Ward by punching her in the face, breaking her nose and also hit PC Ellie Cook, an armed officer with 'a flurry of blows'. The defendants say the violence they used against PC Marsden was lawful because they were acting in self-defence or in defence of each other.
