An army consisting of 27 different countries (4 of who are not in NATO and will contribute nothing) has been mooted for decades. Nothing happens as it gets choked up with procurement problems (seriosu issues legally around IP etc), languages, different incompatible systems. WIll take decades. Not the army but Navy and Airforce that is problem. Many countries don't even have a relevant coast. But main problem is political. Who has command of this army - Leyen? She was the failed German defence minister, famous for their wooden guns. Good idea but can't happen, as political entity is not mature enough to execute and control politically. We need to steer clear of the mess.

I didn't attack you, @DonaldClark I don't even know you. You posted to me...so I responded. You have to back up your point of view..if you want a discussion/debate. If you want to rant...you've found the wrong person. Have nice evening. I mean it. #XWorld on #Brexit
Donald Clark@DonaldClark

@Bonn1eGreer You attacked me because you thought I didn;t know working class UK. Of coutse I donpt kow the ghettos in US, in the same way you don;'t know poverty here. They 'came' to the Museum is the telling phrase, working there is a bit different.

@Bonn1eGreer I'm not ranting just pointing out the vast difference between those two experiences of working class life. I'm not castigating black Americans for voting a certain way, just asking that we consider working class views in this country with respect.

@Bonn1eGreer "I'm asking because we don't know anything about the working class here in London. Never really see them, you see. We rely on experts like you." That was odd....

I was born & grew up in a ghetto. Not a housing estate. A "g-h-e-t-t-o". Know what that means? Ever been stopped by a cop because of the colour of your skin? I was 5 years as Deputy Chair of a major museum. Lots of working class people came. They came to be in the world #Brexit
Donald Clark@DonaldClark

I grew up in those housing estates, you in the US. There's a difference. A life in the arts in UK in London is different. I spent 10 years as Deputy Chair in largest Arts org outside of London, only working class people I encountered were front of house. Remember that the majority of voters voted to leave. it's fine to debate but we need to respect, and we didn't. They were looked down upon as deplorables. Still are.

@andynwoodard @PippaCrerar Raising that divide across the country would spell death to Labour, never mind an election defeat. People want some continuity not betrayal. Would be triumph of middle lasses in defeating working voices in Labour. Manna from heaven for Reform.

@DonaldClark @PippaCrerar And that would be true for this parliament….. putting it in a manifesto for a different parliament? We get the chance to vote on that, and if we elected them, it would be on that manifesto - no contradiction there at all

Most senior Labour figure yet to openly call for party to put rejoining EU in next election manifesto. Will others now follow? (Very few even say this privately - but it’s a long time until the next election)…
Antonello Guerrera@antoguerrera

EXCLUSIVE. For the first time, @MayorofLondon @SadiqKhan asks @Keir_Starmer to not only “rejoin the EU Customs Union and the Single Market this Parliament”, but also to “fight the next general election with a clear manifesto commitment: a vote for Labour means we would rejoin the European Union”, without a second #Brexit referendum. 🇬🇧 🇪🇺 Full interview - with many other topics - tomorrow in @repubblica

@andynwoodard @PippaCrerar Literally said "Britain will stay outside of the EU" so requires a vole face for next Manifesto but electorate already see them as having betrayed their promise NOW with recent moves i.e. lying. Hence the abysmal polls.

While London may want to rejoin, areas like mine that voted 70% to leave definitely do not. In an increasingly divided world, the last thing we need is to divide the country all over again by restarting this debate.

I'm the granddaughter of a Mississippi sharecropper and the daughter of a factory worker. I'm #workingclass, too...and enslaved class. The working class folks I know did not vote #Brexit. They wanted their kids to be in the BIG WIDE WORLD. ..Like my father wanted for me
Donald Clark@DonaldClark

@Bonn1eGreer Sarcasm is perhaps the defining feature of this debate. I am working class & spent years as Director of City & Guilds, LearnDirect and UFI, in this field. So have some expertise. They don't have a voice but htey do have a vote, and voted to leave and ready to vote for Reform.

Brent crude, global oil benchmark, rose by 8% to $116 a barrel. This will hurt everyone, especially the poor badly. Egypt has already restricted electricity use.... theguardian.com/business/2026/…

@RasmusJarlov Israel is not in NATO. The US did this unilaterally and were not attacked. If the US invades Greenand, you'll look more than foolish.

Europe has to understand that NATO isnt a one way street. If Europe does not support the USA now, dont expect the Americans to help the next time Denmark or Canada randomly decide to invade other countries!

@ChathamHouse Most patronising sentence of the year. We're not in Helsinki undermining Finnish democracy, demanding they leave the EU, in an undignified talk, using silly, exaggerated metaphors. If forced one could claim the EU has shot itself in both feet, on energy and defence.

Just want to say that in England there is a national board that sets exam standards for exams like this. And it makes sense to do that because dumbed down tests are a clear threat to prosperity and national security.
Jeremy Wayne Tate@JeremyTate41

It’s an incredible dynamic, as American students get dumber by every other metric they are doing better than ever on College Board’s AP! I am in communication with administrators from the most selective universities in America and they universally think AP is a joke.
