Never thought I’d need to say this, but: When designing covers, be aware that a lot of teens and young adults can no longer read cursive. It’s not taught in a lot of US schools. I just showed a cool cover to some college students and was shocked that they couldn’t read the title.

Today, some of the books that shaped my life—and the lives of so many others—are being challenged by people who disagree with certain ideas or perspectives. And librarians are on the front lines, fighting every day to make the widest possible range of viewpoints, opinions, and ideas available to everyone.

Happy 4th! On our nation’s birthday, I am reminded of why my immigrant parents came here…it wasn’t to tuck those hard to tuck bedsheets into corners in the motel. 😂 No it was so I could have the FREEDOM to read and dream what I want! ❤️📚🇺🇸 #FinallySeen #FrontDeskSeries

Earlier this week, FCMS Library staff helped to host a visit from world-renowned Young Adult author Kwame Alexander! Mr. Alexander delivered 2 presentations for my students in the auditorium following a schoolwide read of his 2nd novel, BOOKED.
