The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation calls for a pause for reflection. It is also a call to action. It is a reminder for all British Columbians to learn the truth of the immense harms caused by residential schools. The effects of residential school trauma reverberate through generations. Our province has been at the forefront of the formal recognition of the rights of Indigenous people as fundamental human rights and there are elements in our political system that want to roll back that recognition. We must be gentle but unyielding in recognizing the harms that residential schools caused generations of Indigenous people; it is the only way forward. Today is a somber day, but let’s acknowledge the resilience of Indigenous people, language, and culture, which has flourished despite aggressive and repeated attempts to erase it. Indigenous peoples deep contribution to the shared wealth of British Columbia is in spite of the barriers of colonization. Together all British Columbians have taken tremendous strides towards reconciliation. Reconciling the past and recognizing the full human rights of all British Columbians is the only way forward. @BCGreens A false somber day of reflection that would only happen in a country of sheep like Canada that have bought into the hoax of being settlers, dead & buried children ( still no bodies) after years. Everything about this is reverse racism where only the Indigenous are blameless.

It's disappointing that BC Conservative Leader John Rustad chose to use today, a day of somber reflection, to further divide British Columbians. The legislation Rustad wants to repeal affirms the basic human rights of Indigenous people and creates economic certainty and social stability for our province. Repealing DRIPA is not what leadership looks like.

If that were only true. Simplification of the hazardous implications of #UNDRIP #DRIPA (for everyone) is not possible except to say. Repeal is necessary. No offense to our FN but the document end game is just NOT CANADIAN. Great timing on Mr. Rustad's part - It is not necessarily a popularity contest this time. Many issues have become urgent and the NDP has just woke up from their luxurious denial vacation. Anyone adding up their $$ promised SANTA WISH LIST?
