Total insanity from the recent Dahn lab paper. Batteries that last 27,000 cycles, equivalent to 7.5M miles!!! Enough to go to the moon and back 15 times. In the future, literally everything in your car will break before your battery, including you. You'll pass down your battery to your kids and grandkids and great grandkids. And most surprisingly, these are NMC cells!

Texas is the clean energy capital of the United States. And a chunk of that is because of their easy permitting, relatively ample transmission, and highly deregulated electricity market. Abundance thinking in energy works.
Daniel Gross@grossdm

Pretty astonishing. In Texas, between 10:00 am and 4:00 p.m., 80-90% of electricity comes from carbon free sources. And storage is already a significant contributor in the early morning and evening

WSJ: Tesla Finally Has Its First Semi-Truck and It’s Already a Hit With Truckers. "Truckers who drove it in pilot tests say they loved features including a centered driving position, faster charging and longer range for about $100,000 less than other battery-electric trucks. Angel Rodriguez, a 56-year-old truck driver for Hight Logistics in Long Beach, Calif., recently swapped out a 13-gear diesel truck for a Tesla Semi, which is automatic, for a one-month pilot test. “It’s just easier on your body. It’s less stressful because you’re not really having to engage the clutch and the stick shift.” Big F Transport employs five mechanics to service more than 40 diesel-powered rigs and a fleet of trailer chassis in Wilmington, Calif. “If we go all EV we will only need one [mechanic] to service chassis,” said Geovanny Melendez, the carrier’s VP of operations, who went to see the Semi earlier this month at a ride-and-drive event near the Port of Long Beach. Jennie Abarca, co-founder and CEO of King Fio Trucking in Long Beach, Calif., once worked as a truck dispatcher and her husband is a truck driver, so she knows all too well the toll a diesel engine takes on people’s lungs and hearing. She eventually wants to swap out King Fio’s 27 diesel trucks to create an all-electric fleet. King Fio already has 11 battery-electric trucks from Volvo and Nikola. But the company limits those trucks to shorter trips to and from local ports because they only have a range of about 225 miles. The Semi, by contrast, can travel 500 miles on a single charge, according to Tesla. For King Fio that means two or three round-trips a day from Long Beach to warehouses in the nearby Inland Empire or a single round-trip to Las Vegas. She has 20 Semis on order. “The Teslas change everything,” Abarca said. “It opens up a whole different type of delivery that I can make.”

California expanded its fleet by 29%, to 15.2 GW. Texas grew by 69%, to over 14 GW. Arizona saw "blistering growth" more than doubling its utility-scale battery capacity to 4.7 GW at end of 2025. Battery revolution is just starting in USA & globally. canarymedia.com/articles/batte…

Growing global adoption of electric vehicles helped avoid the consumption of 2.3 million barrels of oil per day last year. By 2030, avoided daily consumption could more than double to 5.25 million barrels. “Electric vehicles are increasingly cost-competitive with gasoline cars. Oil volatility means EVs are a common-sense choice for countries wishing to insulate themselves from future shocks.” Daan Walter, analyst at Ember.

Opinion in USA Today: "If fighting climate change is your thing, Elon Musk is your friend ‒ no matter what you think of his politics or personal life; The whole “frak the 1%” tempest is a distraction used to manipulate the masses by politicians who want their votes and activists who want their money. What really matters is what the rich contribute to society through their work, just like the rest of us. And Musk has given us electric vehicles that are among the world’s best, space exploration that is pushing the boundaries of where we can go and how we’ll get there, satellite internet that defies dictators and empowers the impoverished, and cutting-edge artificial intelligence that may deliver wonders that transform how we live and work. Not bad for a troll. I can’t help but admire the companies he’s launched and the innovations he’s driven. If you have never had the privilege of watching a SpaceX rocket take off and land at Cape Canaveral, then get yourself to Florida. It’s an amazing sight. Another of Musk’s wonders, Starlink, delivers high-speed internet access around the globe, including in places where rampant poverty or government oppression used to make online connections difficult. And Tesla, despite liberals’ dirty looks, is still the most successful electric carmaker in the nation with the world’s largest economy. The progressive boycott of Tesla always seemed shortsighted to me for that reason."

Samsung confirming volume production of Tesla chips at its Texas factory in the second half of next year is a bigger deal than the headline suggests. Tesla has been quietly building domestic chip supply for its autonomous and robotics ambitions. Getting Samsung's Texas fab into volume production means fewer geopolitical risks, shorter lead times, and more control over the supply chain right as Optimus and Robotaxi start to scale. The people paying attention to this kind of infrastructure news are usually the ones who aren't surprised later. $TSLA

NEWS: Tesla spotted Robotaxi service testing in Dallas, Texas. All Model Ys spotted in the area have rear camera washers, which is something only the Model Y Robotaxi vehicles in Austin have had. They also have Texas plates. One was spotted simulating a pickup/dropoff. Tesla said on its Q4 earnings call that Dallas was one of the 7 planned metro areas that would see robotaxi coverage in the first half of 2026.

NEWS: Samsung is preparing to build a second chip factory at its semiconductor cluster in Taylor, Texas. The first fab (below) is Samsung's new $25 billion chip fabrication facility that will help produce @Tesla's future AI6 (HW6) chip. Samsung wants to expand and build a second chip fab as major U.S. tech companies line up to place their orders amid strained capacity at Taiwanese rival TSMC. The facility is a 40 minute drive from Tesla's Giga Texas factory. Last year, Tesla signed a $16.5 billion deal with Samsung to produce these AI6 chips, but Elon Musk says that number is "just the bare minimum. Actual output is likely to be several times higher." Various Tesla products such as their cars and their Optimus robot will use this AI6 chip. The first Samsung fab facility in Taylor is expected to be operational in 2026.
