How about instead of a 5k bonus to have a baby - the gov invest in paid family leave, affordable childcare, and maternal health care instead?

@EpiEllie Autism was not even a formal defined diagnosis until DSM III published in 1980, so there is no way to get rates before that date. “Autistic isolation” was a key feature so any child who showed any human attachment did not get diagnosed

When I criticize charlatans in the health and medicine world (Oz, RFK Jr., anyone who writes a book about what They don't want you to know), I often hear this kind of response: "What about the problems with Big Pharma and the money they're making?" Which makes a lot of sense! The problem is that the charlatans are generally uninterested in addressing the real problems with pharma $$$, and more interested in pushing their own simplistic nonsense as a solution. Let's take vaccines. Any critic of pharmaceutical companies would understand that vaccines are not, in fact, a giant moneymaker for pharmaceutical companies. They're also good for public health!

@ZaidJilani @ChrisMurphyCT Universal programs that everyone thinks they could possibly benefit from our always the most popular. Programs that target one specific population, inevitably become unpopular.

The child tax credit, increased ACA subsidies, and student loan forgiveness helped people. All good policy. But it didn't move people emotionally to our side. Why? Maybe because most people don't want a handout. They want the rules unrigged so they can succeed on their own.

Just asked @ZekeEmanuel about what we should be doing next for America’s health to have the greatest impact. His answer made me jump out of my chair. Invest in our children. The earlier, the better.
