One of the hardest things to teach in software engineering: it's literally all made up, functions are just GOTOs, the computer doesn't care what anything is called, almost all the "structure" in our code is only there to make something convenient for another human to comprehend

@gurlcode It finally clicked for me a couple of years ago, but once I really “got” debugging it’s a hard requirement for everything I do now. Being able to set a breakpoint in a package in a node_modules folder and seeing how the data you pass in is actually used, is so much easier.

Some days I can't believe where I am. 10 years ago I was walking down the side of the road with nothing but pocket change; toddler on my hip, gas can in my hand, barely awake from the night shift at Krispy Kreme, about to be evicted... Today I'm merging my own PRs at Apple.

@taniarascia I really like the structure that redux-toolkit suggests in their documentation. It’s divided into a /features/ folder where all pieces of a feature are together.

Since there's no consensus on the architectural directory structure for React projects, I'm going to write up my proposal on a layout that I think makes sense. I'd love to hear what you think works the best for a React project in 2021.

@Deveshb15 Vercel’s NextJS hosting is amazing, and free at their hobby level. The automatic deployment features are fantastic.

This reminded me of another story. We used to know this incredibly talented software programmer that was an artist, a genius, a visionary, and very strongly opinionated. He was ahead of his time. 1/

@kentcdodds There are fully electric water heaters with large tanks. They use heating elements on the top and bottom of the tank, in a loop, that heat the water. They are very common, and easy to install. They just need 220v power.

Anyone here have a fully electric water heater? ⚡💧🔥 I was told by a plumber that they're not a thing (or that if they are they would be super inefficient), but I'm pretty sure they were wrong. Curious if anyone has experience with them.

If you’re a developer / software engineer of any kind, what was your degree in college (or did you not go to college?) I want to see the educational diversity of this field. I’ll start - I majored in Psychology.
