It is unfortunate to hear Republican leaders, including our Governor, condemn students and educators for exercising their First Amendment rights. Efforts to silence people for doing what our Constitution protects by threatening investigations and possible punishment is even more troubling. In Oklahoma City—and across our state—we have celebrated Ms. Clara Luper and her students for their protest during the Civil Rights Movement for the infamous Katz Drug Store Sit-In. It is now memorialized in downtown Oklahoma City, and cherished by so many. We regularly acknowledge their bravery and courage to stand up to their government and inhumane acts toward them and their peers simply because of the color of their skin. No doubt they were criticized and threatened at the time. But now? We see by exercising their rights, progress has been made—and many get to benefit from their protest. So, the question now is this: when looking back at this time in our history, where families are being separated, innocent American citizens being killed in broad daylight, and people being targeted by an unchecked organization violating much of our Constitution, do you want to be known as the critic or a defender of our rights, even if it makes any one person or any system uncomfortable? I think the students are teaching us an important lesson of protecting and living in our democracy.

🚨OH-MY-GOD: Karoline Leavitt just had a full tantrum and blamed Democrats for politicizing the flood in Texas. She claimed the National Weather Services were actually OVERSTAFFED in Texas. Ample reporting shows the exact opposite - it was understaffed. Leavitt is a LIAR.

I haven't seen a single Democrat cheer on the death of children in Texas. The only thing I've seen are Democrats calling out MAGA for not recognizing Trump's role in the bungled emergency response. You all have lost your minds and decided to blame...weather machines.

Two weeks after the NC flood, after it became painfully clear that the federal response was inadequate, Dana Bash was viciously defending the Biden/Harris Admin and warning about the dangers of politicizing a storm response. It's only two days after the Texas flood and Dana Bash is already trying to blame Trump for the disaster. This is CNN.

These parents are going to see these comments. It's unavoidable. It breaks my heart for them to know that democrats have belittled and dehumanized their children because of politics. This is going to be on the internet forever. I really hate people who politicize a tragedy. I hate. I'm losing faith in humanity.
