Father, you packed a lot of authority claims into a very short statement. Let's unpack them against Scripture because every single one has a problem. "He has no right as a Catholic to order the Pope to be silent." Where does the Bible establish that a church leader is immune from correction by those under his authority? Because Paul didn't get that memo. Galatians 2:11 … "Now when Peter came to Antioch, I withstood him to his face, because he was to be blamed." Peter. The man Catholics identify as the first Pope. Publicly rebuked. By a man under his authority. Paul didn't send a private letter through proper channels. He didn't request a meeting with the College of Apostles. He confronted Peter to his face because Peter's public behavior was leading people astray. And the Holy Spirit saw fit to canonize that rebuke in Sacred Scripture for every generation to read. If Peter could be publicly corrected, no successor of Peter is above the same treatment. The office does not make the man infallible in his public conduct. The Bible itself establishes this precedent. "Whose shortcomings I know well." Father, you opened with a personal shot at Vance's character and then immediately complained about "unpleasant undertones." You embedded an insult inside a lecture about civility. The irony is loud. That command is given to every believer. Not just priests. Not just bishops. Every Christian is commanded to test. Acts 17:11 praises the Bereans because they "searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so"… and "these things" were Paul's own apostolic teaching. Laypeople fact-checked an Apostle and the Bible called them noble for doing it. You are asserting a hierarchy of speech where ordained men speak and laypeople receive. The Bible asserts a hierarchy of truth where Scripture speaks and everyone… Pope, priest, vice president… receives. "I will add nothing more on this matter." That is the most revealing line in your entire statement. You've pronounced judgment, invoked your clerical office, fired a personal shot at Vance's character, told him to stay in his lane… and then closed the door on further discussion. Proverbs 18:17 … "The first one to plead his cause seems right, until his neighbor comes and examines him." You don't want examination, Father. You want submission. You want the collar to end the conversation. But Matthew 23:8-10 warns against exactly this… "Do not be called 'Rabbi'; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren."
